I read it as good news. A 4-6 week MCL sprain means its deeply unlikely to have any effect on him long-term.

Agreed that play could have resulted in MUCH worse things such as the dreaded torn ACL. Still horrible to hear that his junior season is probably over due to such a dirty play.

A couple Leafs prospects recognized as the OHL Eastern Conference Coaches Poll results were released.

Biggs got 3rd in both the hardest shot category and the best shot blocker category.

Interestingly Percy was ranked 2nd in the best shoot-out shooter category. Behind only Strome and tied with Schiefle and Campagna.

Looking at the mapleleafs and their management the way they've handled prospects lately, first Schenn and Kadri albeit was Wilson and Burke who are gone now, and now Gardiner. Does anyone think this will hurt us going forward? There signed to their 3 year ELC then the way there getting handled they'll holdout/demand trades/want big money on contracts just to stay with the franchise?

I fail to see how allowing Gardiner and Kadri more developmental time will hurt us. In fact it should strengthen us. The players won't be able to demand as much money if they spent most of that year with the Marlies. They need to get rid of their sense of entitlement and earn their spot on the big club. Kadri has finally dropped it and its paying off wonders for him. I love the fact that we are developing our prospects now/making sure they are ready for the big show thus allowing them a greater chance to have a successful career.

I don't really see a comparison between Schenn, Kadri and Gardiner at all. Kadri is clearly exemplifying right now that his development was handled properly, imo. Schenn was brought into the show right away and isn't a comparable situation to Gardiner's development or career path at all thus far. You say it like Kadri's development is hurting us, which clearly isn't the case as he is PPG playing sheltered minutes.

In short, no I don't think having Gardiner play more minutes in the AHL while honing his game is bad.

Player development aside, I do think Gardiner subbing for Kostka/Holzer would give us a better chance at winning games.

Are knee surgeries still a big deal? Ignoring the long recovery time, players almost always make a full recovery these days.

Not as big a deal as they used to be.

Malkin, Galchenyuk, Rielly all had the same knee injuries and they are all 100%.

Schenn - thrown in the NHL right away
Kadri - Sent back to junior before going to the AHL with spot call ups to learn the level of intensity required
Gardiner - full season in the NHL before going to AHL to better recuperate from injury

So whichever way the leafs develop a prospect it's the wrong way?

Kadri appears to have been perfectly handled and is succeeding in a big role. Schenn was brought up too young but dug his own hole layer on with sketchy play (looks fine now tho). I have not watched Gardner play enough this year to say if he is NHL ready but I will assume they want him to be flying when they bring him up because they already have some healthy scratches on D. I don't see anything that isn't happening with ten other clubs at any given time. they will be fine.

I'm assuming it's because the games don't really matter anymore? Don't think any of the General's top players played, Jenner and Laughton were out too.

based on poulin interview, there is a slight chance he could be with leafs, since he did say, we will think about what to do

but than again, gardiner and reilly could be deadly with marlies
