Take Picks. I'm sure they are devastated but the price is too high and those draft picks could be good. Colorado didn't want to give him that kind of money, and paying him 6.5 next season is ridiculous.
They should have traded O'Reilly earlier because I think they could have gotten more.
He's not worth the money but he's probably worth more than what will likely be a non-lotto 1st round pick. The Avs are probably looking at a lose-lose decision here.
Its definitely not an ideal situation but I still think you dont want to be handcuffed with that deal, and I dont think Calgary is a playoff team even with ROR, so they will still more likely than not get a pretty good pick
if a team like Boston or Vancouver made this deal...even the Devils, I think it would be a good trade, it's worth the risk because those are playoff teams. Calgary has missed the playoffs the last few years and are on the outside looking in this season. The west is deep and Feester is banking too much on RoR imo... also the 6.5M QO is too much for any unproven player
