Unless you count lombardi and Lupul as quick fix trades which also brought Gardiner and Franson and in Lupul case a draft pick as well every trade that has been made was done so to bring in a long term asset

Even if the Habs lose and the Leafs win, they would still be 4th as the Bruins would have three games in hand...

Be honest.

That must be why they went 6-9-3 under him (a .417 point percentage), while they went 29-28-7 under Wilson (a .508 point percentage).

They go on the all-too-familiar losing skid in March and finish somewhere around 9th-10th. It's the Leafs, they're doing really well lately but I'll believe it when they actually clinch a playoff spot.

saying we miss the playoffs really speaks for those who don't watch the games.

So in this post, you're saying you're going to wait to the playoffs to make a judgement call?

Great post

Okay, and I'll tell you the lotto max numbers next Friday after they post the numbers on their website.

The question is, how far do the Leafs go...not whatever you are trying to answer.

I dunno, as a Habs fan it pains me to say this but the Leafs aren't awful any more. I think they'll be in on e of the 6-7-8 spots.

In today's NHL, anything can happen and you can go from worst to first or vice versa in one season, so predictions are more and more difficult to get right. Sure, the Leafs haven't made the playoffs in donkey's years, but this could be the year they do. Who knows, really?

The only annoying thing about it all is that if they actually make it, you'll likely see many fans screaming that they knew it right from the start of the season, which is what you hear every year until the eventual collapse, then they go quietly into the night and pretend they said nothing.

I do hope they make it this year though. I have a lot of friends who are Leafs fans, and as much as I love to bash them, I feel bad for them having nothing but minor victories here and there (see last Saturday's game against my Habs), and nothing of any significance.

Personally, I want to see a first round match-up between Montreal and Toronto (despite that I voted Toronto won't make the playoffs, I'm not big on breaking streaks). I'm sure the rest of the hockey world, whether they like either team or not, will be watching!

This might be the worst post of them all.

Are you really going to assess Carlyle as a coach on a team that just fired it's previous coach?

By the time he was hired there was zero chance at the playoffs and the players confidence was beyond shattered.

The last time they had such a bad stretch as the one last year was sometime in 96-97.

Carlyle was hired to start instilling his system into his team and figure out who he wanted on the team, and who needed to be shipped...so the players going into this season would know exactly what to expect with him.

They did a much better job than the Habs did in that sense. Habs fired Martin, then hired Cunneyworth as interim (everyone and their great grandmothers knew he wasn't going to last even if the Habs were suddenly good under him).
