Last year President's Day game produced an absolute stinker against Ottawa as that was probably their closest chance at getting within striking distance of the playoffs. Even though it seems early, these games are all so crucial.

We had some pleasant surprises against Philly last year, so here's to another one!

Let's Go Isles!!

I finally get to enjoy an Islanders game on my new TV. So pumped.

The Flyers suck so far this season and their D is a mess. JT with 2 goals, 3 assists.

Grabner, Ullstrom, Boyes and Bailey netting the others.

LETS DO THIS ISLANDERS!

Thanks, I copied and pasted them and I forgot to update. Sorry. Fixed it now, that's the problem with trying to do too many things a once.

If you include spouses, my wife is in the same situation. But don't be worried, Obama is doing a great job, if you ask him, he'll tell you about the 100's of 1000's of jobs he's created!

Getting back to hockey, I think the Islanders can win this one. I feel like they're in one of their "good streaks".

Good memory.

Isles were 25-25-8 going into President's Day 2012. 58 points. 6 points out of a playoff spot with 24 games left. But also only 1 point ahead of the team in 15th. The points are inflated from the loser point, keeping teams in it for longer. At this point last year in the Islanders season, if they are going to be a playoff team, they put together a 13-5-6 run and maybe they can squeak in. Anything less than that, and it just appears they are within striking distance. But being 6-10 points out with 4 teams to jump, they are just a lottery team.

But this year is such a wildcard because while it is still so early in the season relative to how recently we started, there are only 34 games left. Everything feels like a must win, and after losing 5 in a row at any point in this abbreviated season (and getting ZERO points), it is. Because of the loser point and with only 48 games - all within the conference, it could be 2-4 points that will separate getting home ice... and missing the playoffs. Another 2-4 points, and it's near the bottom.

Regardless, they just need to win hockey games 1 at a time. The Flyers are a beatable team right now, but first meeting of the season against a team like the Flyers with our recent history -- it all goes out the window.

Whatever, Go Islanders. Need JT to continue to play like the rest of the league has the flu and he doesn't.

As someone who was on and off working for 22 months (June 2010-April 2012..I worked a hodepodge of temp jobs and other ones to work). I can say that like StrongIslanders90 said, better times ahead.

I will say that if you are on one of those job sites (or applying to a job on an employers own site) if it asks you minimum salary requirements (either daily, weekly, yearly) you put $1, or as low as you can, it is a mechanism to get rid of as many applications as possible. So put $1 a day or $1000 a year to not get tripped up.

Also get a personal email address of just your real name, because an email that starts with "fancybred".... is not professional!. If you are looking for a specific field make sure what you put in your resume relates to that job, or you can relate that experience to the job you want. For example make a sales job you had in the past apply to an open marketing job by showing that you can sell ideas to professionals and laypeople, also and that your sales experience shows that you can work independently and you can relate to anyone. Then use a quick super specific example on why. Any extra stuff not partially related to the job you want should be disregarded.

Two page or smaller resume that is tailored to the jobs you want (I had specific resumes that related to IT and Sales when I was looking). Some have said to make up a new resume for every job you apply to, I say have a general template and modify it extensively instead.

Also I would look to see if the job/profession that you are in is still in demand or if it is losing jobs....look to get into an in demand field like healthcare, education, or IT. Know that you do not necessarily have to go back to school...sometimes just get a temp job here or there, at least be going for training and poof you can get a entry level job. I am studying for a certification and got an IT job. It happened to me.

I found that it is tough, but the harder you work at the start, the better your odds are. Even so, don't obsess over it, have a hobby, watch an Isles game. I am actually glad I went through this. Now I am looking to get a better job in the same building.

I am not a professional, so I will tread lightly but....
Trust me, I have two puppets dressed up as pimps as my avatar.

Oh and another good GDT from Truman.

Pnut

I was laid off the day after Christmas, and just started a new job and they want me to come in for training today at 1:30... Would rather be bumming off {MOD EDIT} so I can watch the game lol j/k...

That being said, if the Islanders can find a way to win this game they can really get themselves back into the thick of things. Not playoffs, but knocking on the door and carrying some serious momentum going into Ottawa.

That would be impressive since its a day game. Tavares is now the most interesting man in the world. "He once scored 5 points at night...in a day game"

I make 4.5

I'm one third done with my third degree and I make $8.90 an hour at Wal-Mart.

I called the first Rags game a game which could make or break the season - with respect to the mental state of the team.

Winning 3 in a row (beating the Flyers today) is something which could be a big mental lift for the Isles.

I hate these holiday Monday matinee games.

We've played well the last few games, but I'd be VERY wary of the Flyers. Wounded animal in a corner and all that....

HOPING: Isles 3 -1. Tavares, Bailey, Vis
PROBABLE: Flyers 3-2 S/O F. Tavares, McDonald

wicked GDT trumanperro - well done! This board is spoiled with cool GDTs as much as the team is cursed with ownership and cheapness!

Should be a fun game to watch, I've got the DVR going and have to avoid hockey news (which is pretty impossible in Toronto).
