JT is a great player and if he got some PP time with Crosby or Malkin his numbers would go through the roof
he wouldn't be playing with Crosby though since he is replacing him in this hypothetical situation, he would probably be with Kunitz and Cooke which I don't dont even think is an upgrade
Malkin did not put up 115 points getting to play at being Crosby last year and I do think Tavares is truly great without putting up 115, so really what I feel I am being asked here is, whether I believe that Pittsburgh is a magical fairy land where new points total = old points total + 40 or more applies and the honest answer is no.
People who voted yes do realize Crosby's wingers are Pascal Dupuis and Chris Kunitz, right?
Think about that for a minute. People voting yes are essentially saying that Dupuis and Kunitz are going to help Tavares score 115 points, despite the fact Tavares' career high is only 81 points.
They're not the kind of wingers that would help a player jump 34 points over their career high.
if tavares played on the penguins with crosby on crosby's line he would be a 130 point player, if he was 3rd line center he would put up 55ish points in a full season if crosby was removed from the team and he was 2nd line center he would be a 90 point scorer
No he wouldn't.
Let's say Tavares scores 130, and Crosby scores 150, that's very improbable on its own. Then you factor in a linemate who couldn't help but rack up points just by being there. Say Kunitz plays with them and picks up similar numbers to what he did with Neal and Malkin last season, you're looking at around 340 points on a single line. That's just not something that's going to happen.
I can't see anyone scoring 130 unless something changes drastically about the league itself.
Go look at the year Crosby put up 120pts, look at his wingers. The guy is a points machine regardless of who his wingers are. Give Crosby Tavares' wingers and he's still going to put up big numbers. It's just how good Crosby is, Tavares is not as good as Crosby. Crosby was already this damn good in his 1st 2yrs in the NHL, Tavares hasn't even hit 100pts yet and he's 4yrs in.

The only guy that can crack 130pts in this league, is Crosby. Now that he's back to being his good ol' self, healthy and dominating, he could do it. He's hit 120pts before, so there's proof he could hit something close to that.
Most Tavares has done is 81pts. He's damn good too, but Crosby is a generational talent. Tavares isn't, as good as he is.
Not even close. How exactly would he put up more points playing with Kunitz and Dupuis?
Moulson & Parenteau were better point producers than Kunitz & Dupuis. Parenteau has come into his own, a very late bloomer, the guy is putting up solid points away from the Isles as well and Moulson has come into his own with the Isles.
Crosby probably would do more damage with those two than Tavares has managed to. Not a slight to Tavares at all though. The skill levels between the two is just worlds apart.
John Tavares is quickly becoming overrated. He's a damn good player but he doesn't come anywhere close to belonging in the same discussion as the most elite players.
I don't remeber who Crosby has as a RW but I'm sure it's not Neal so:
Boyes > whoever is Crosby's RW
Conclusion: Both are elite players that make average players better but Tavares plays with better linemates so no. He'd be PPG player though.
I'd definitely take Kunitz over Boyes.
It isn't so much that Kunitz and Dupuis are terrible, because they aren't, but they aren't going to help Tavares score an extra 20-30 points per season.

Nah, Malkin plays with Neal and whatever name Bylsma pulls out of a hat. Every single player that's been auditioned on that line has combined for 1 point all season.
