05/06 lines

the set of lines does not include this years draft because we dont know who will win the crosby sweepstakes, but i am board so i decided to write up lines for pens and baby pens. if anything it might stir up some debate. so lets some fun.

LW-----------------------C---------------------RW

LEMIEUX-------------ZHAMNOV--------------RECCHI
MALONE--------------KRAFT-----------------MOROZOV
KOLTSOV------------PREJETA----------------ARMSTRONG
LEFEBVRE-----------ENDICOTT---------------VANDENBUSSCHE

-----------TARNSTROM---------JACKMAN------------------
-----------ORPIK---------------SCUDERI------------------
-----------ROZIVAL------------MELICHAR-----------------
--------------------FLEURY-----------------------------
--------------------CARON-----------------------------

PRESS BOX, FATA, BEECH, STRBAK

BABY PENS

MURLEY------------MALKIN--------------OUELLET
ABID---------------CHRISTIANSON-------HUSSEY
SUROVY------------TALBOT--------------FILEWICH
CARCILLO----------STONE---------------CRAMPTON

---------LUPACHUK----------KOCI---------------
---------WHITNEY-----------WELCH-------------
---------FATA---------------BISSONETTE-------

----------------CHIODO-----------------------
----------------SEBERAON--------------------

REASON FOR MALKIN ON THE BABY PENS FOR HIM TO LEARN THE N.A STYLE GAME FOR A SEASON BEFORE MOVING HIS WAY TO THE BIG TEAM AND THE REASON FOR SIGNING ZHAMNOV IS TO MAKE SURE WE HAVE MADE THE MINUMUM CAP. AND FOR D MEN WHITNEY WELCH AND BISSONETTE WOULD GET QUALITY ICE TIME DOWN BELOW LEARNING THE PRO GAME AND NOT MAKING MISTAKES WITH THE BIG TEAM. IT TOOK BROOKS ORPIK 2 YEARS DOWN ON THE FARM BEFORE MOVING UP, WHICH HELPED HIM IMENSELY.

Too far away, with too many variables in the new CBA to even think about it....

I don't follow the Pens very closely, but I do like what Abid brings to the table. I don't think he should be stuck in the second line in WBS. He has enough talent to crack the NHL lineup imo. He's 24 and has nice size and is too good for AHL imo.

Pens have 2 nice LWers in Malone and Kolstov though. I would put those guys ahead of Abid, but Abid could play a nice 3rd line imo. The Pens really have a nice group of young guys coming up. Even Fata seems to have be playing well, he could earn a spot.

BTW- No spot for McKenna? :lol

Its too early to say for me, but the one thing i keep seeing is Lupaschuck in WBS, however i am not sure he'd clear waivers, so i would bet you see him up in Pittsburgh even if nothing more than a 7th D to start the season

Zoo got it right. Except I'd have Vandenbussche as the 13th forward.

Scuderi makes the Pens or goes on waivers.......He makes the club.

In fact, if Rozival and Melichar are completely recovered, the Pens either cut Strbak, or leave Whitney in the AHL for one more year.......

I'm sure Beech, Lupaschuck are in the same boat as Scuderi. Early on I would have put Scuderi with the pens.... but he hasn't played well defensively this season.

But alot of people think his game translates better to the NHL, and CP said he'll be there. So it could be said its his spot to lose.

I kinda like Strbak... nice size and can help out on the powerplay. But I'd rather see Lupaschuck there. So if Strbak was brought back I wouldn't be upset... good 6th and 7th defencemen that can chip in.

I feel we will see the old Melichar when the NHL resumes. He's injury free, and I feel that he will be back to physical self. He's our ancor on the 3rd pairing.

great job zoo, there are still a lot of spots up in the air, thanks to the way the baby pens have been playing,[or not playing] but i think you have it as close as you can get it at this time.

It's late, I'm drunk, and my hands hurts from punching the... uh... bar, so I'm only gonna do the big Pens. Without further ado....

The 2005-2006 Pittsburgh Penguins...

Lemieux - Malkin - UFA (Kovalev?)
Malone - Beech - Recchi
Koltsov - Kraft - Fata
Abid - Pirjeta - Armstrong

Jackman - Tarnstrom
Orpik - Whitney (going to be VERY good in a few years. Reminds me of Zubov and Hatcher on the Stars years ago. Except Orpik can skate and defend without using his stick as a weapon )
Roszival - Melichar

Potvin or Dafoe? Some kinda UFA, I'd wager
Caron

Extra's...
Vandebusche
Surovy
Scuderi
Strbak

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Morozov under contract in Russia for next year too? If not, he's definitely in the top 6 somewhere.

ANYWAY, all in all, looks like the most solid line up we've had since Jagr was here. We might even.... Naw, I don't wanna jinx us.

edit: fixed as per craig's suggestions.

Well, obviously it all depends on how the draft is done. And frankly, I'm not optimistic about getting him.

Plus, I think too many people got their hopes up about Ovechkin and don't want to repeat the same dissappointment we all went through (although to be 100% honest, I'm happier with Malkin).

Malone and Koltsov are both much more productive on the left side....especailly Malone.

Move Kovy up to the first line back on his right side and Malone down to the second line LW. I'd love to see him back.

Don't quote me ... but I'm sure Morozov only signed for this season, he'll be back in the pittsburgh next season. Thats if there's a season.

I don't mind seeing Beech as the second line centre. The way I see it, its up too Beech and Kraft to see who wins the second line centre spot. The loser gets the 3rd line centre spot.

I'm not a fan of signing Kovalev and lately I'm not even that interested in Zhamnov anymore. We're a team of speed, hustle, and grit, and those guys don't provide all 3.

They would be nice additions, for sure, but I'm not sure they'd be the RIGHT ones. Recchi fits perfect but I think they should be patient and wait for the FAs to hit the market that fit our style to a T.

You know, that's a very good point, although I think Kovy was back in Pitt we might see his hustle come back.

Anyone know what Rolston's status is? Talk about grit, speed, and hustle....

I think he signed with Minnesota. He would have been a nice fit.

Off the top of my head the only current UFA on the market that I think we could really use would be Danny McGillis. I know we need forwards, but he brings a lot of things to the table that we're looking for.

Hmmmm.... The more I think about it, the more I like it. McGillis is the kinda guy our defense sorely needs (I mean, he's no Mike Wilson, but I guess he'll do in a pinch ). Even though his offense is lacking, his defense and physical play would be great for us. Plus, maybe he could give Orpik some valuable pointers on how to play that kind of style and be effective.

Ummm.... I was thinking about McGillis too. He's gotten abit slow but he still brings alot of toughness and size to the blueline which is needed in the east. And has a good shot from the point and can play on the second powerplay unit.

Nice pick Jacobv2

Another gritty defencemen that I wouldn't mind seeing in a pens uniform is.. Ruslan Salei. I'm sure he'd be an UFA next season. Dosen't bring the offensive upside that McGillis would bring, but brings same toughness and leadership too our young blueline.
