Hawks vs Bruins

I'd be stunned if this wasn't the series to end the short season.

Question: how do the hawks handle the bruins physical, sometimes dirty, style?

This reminds me of the old bulls / pistons matchups, where detroits strategy was to physically beat the bulls into submission.

Will bruins do the same kind of thing? Logic says their best strategy is to be extremely physical with the hawks and slow them down / intimidate them.

How should the hawks play them?

Really? The playoffs can be such a crapshoot. I'd be very surprised to see both there when it's all send in done.

Man would the folks at 30 Rock be creaming their pants, though.

of the teams in the eastern conference, the bruins are the team i'd be most worried about facing.

Yeah, the writers have it for Boston and Bruin fans. I hate to be the one to tell you this, but 30 Rock is now living on a nice farm.

By 30 Rock I wasn't talking about the show, just meant the real life execs at NBC.

We play our game. Boston's D would have serious trouble with us.

It would be a great series, but let's take things one step at a time.

If it does happen, the Hawks do have a few guys to counter Boston's physical play, but they're obviously a lot tougher overall than Chicago. They'd have to rely on their skill, puck possession, not let the core players' ice time get too high (especially Keith and Seabrook), great goaltending, depth at D, strong PK, balanced production from all 4 lines, etc.

Basically just continue to do what they've been doing. The PP has improved from last year, but it could still get better, which can come up huge in the playoffs.

Great teams dictate play. We just aren't built to out physical anybody, much less a throwback like the Bruins. We control play and stretch their defense with our skating.

Too early and blah blah blah but just for fun's sake...all i know is that our 1st line would be completely neutralized by Chara, much like how it was in 2010 when Pronger was shutting down Toews all series. We'd really need to be able to roll 4 lines all series, something our roster can currently do very well.

Just from a matchup perspective alone, this series would be phenomenal

For arguments sake, in regular season where calls are made and the hockey is allowed to be open and flowing the Hawks would win, in the play-offs where games tighten up and refs swallow whistles I would take the Bruins if my life depended on it.

that'd be the dream matchup. Would make an interesting 6 or 7 game series

That kessel trade will help the Bruins stay in contention for years.. A 1st line star center and a budding D-man where the sky is the limit... Oh and a pretty good 2nd rounder in Jared Knight..

I think most teams would rather duck the Bruins in the playoffs - itís probably best to wish the Bruins get upset early on. Itís not necessarily pretty, but they play a complete game and in the few times we have faced them in the past few years, they have bullied us badly, allowing them to dominate much of the time.

Can they be beaten? Certainly. Their defense is not the quickest around, nor is their team speed and they certainly can get into penalty trouble. Iím also not convinced about Rask in the nets. It would take lots of grit in our back end especially, patience and discipline and players like Carcillo and Bolland would have to be at their rattiest. (I doubt thatís a word, I made it up). Of course, Crawford would have to be sharp.

Waaaaay too early to prognosticate who'll come out of each conference. We still have half the season and the entire playoffs to go, anything could happen.

That being said, don't think anyone would be surprised if you bet that that'd be the Stanley Cup matchup. And I'm sure that the NHL and NBC would be delirious with joy if they got that final.

I will say for all of the stand up, hard nosed players Boston has that I'd love to see don the Indian Head, Marchand makes Kesler look like a choir boy. That team gets by on reputation a lot more than it should.

Boston is tremendously talented and very deep, we'd need to out skate and out hustle a team that's as talented as ours is and bases their game around hustle.

Boston is one of my favorite teams. I'd hate to lose that.
