"Both our (current) goalies are aware of it, it's not that we don't think that we have NHL-calibre goaltenders, or goalies with the ability to become very good starting goaltenders," Nonis explained. "But if we could add someone to help them along, a veteran that would help them grow, then we would do it."
I'd think we carry 3 goalies and the veteran can just help em out in practice and in the room
Sooo...kinda what a goalie coach does?
Sounds to me like he's looking for a Scrivens replacement. Let's be honest, we're rolling as a team right now but I still don't have faith in Scrivens long term. But hey, maybe Scrivens can keep up what he's doing right now and gain the GM's trust.
Nonis was asked if his earlier statement about the goalie situation still applies...that is he would like to acquire an "experienced" goalie if the right deal came along, even though he believes his two current goalies are NHL quality. He basically said this was still the case. I would not read too much into this TSN report; no need to look for hidden meanings. Have to believe that he is ecstatic with the play of Reimer and Scrivens so far, and is not in any rush to derail their development. I think he was just saying the politically correct GM doublespeak...not really showing the Leafs hand.
