1/2 - Tossup between Iginla & Alfredsson
3 - Toews
4 - Chara

I'd put Ovechkin, Crosby, Horcoff and Phaneuf somewhere in the bottom.

Am I the only one who had no idea that Bryce Salvador was captain of the Devils? goes to show, we as hockey fans have no idea what it's really like in the dressing room. Which is kinda why it's nearly impossible to rank the captains.

I have no clue how we vote on this. What are the criteria?

Look at who some people are putting in the bottom, I'm guessing it's just "I don't like this guy."

Toews. Blues missed that one up at the 2006 draft.

Then Backes.

Alfredsson? Seriously?

this year, Gionta is back, team is 10-4-1
It's because he doesn't put up a ton of points and that's how HF ranks most of the captains.

Pretty happy with Callahan so far. Toews is my number 1 though.

The only way to really rank the captains would be to use quotes from interviews from team mates. At least that is all i can think of..

And that is if we are basing off of leadership qualities i guess?

I have no idea how to rank them, might as well rank them by on-ice performance since I have nothing else to go on.

Crosby is obviously #1. Horcoff is probably #30.

Pretty sure youŽd have to be a really ****** captain to get a teammate to say so publically.

I agree with you on Toews. Complete player/leader IMO.

They've both been captains for 3 weeks.

Chara

I'd argue he has the most effect on his team, and their identity.

Iginla or Alfy.

Backes does deserve top 15 notion though.

This poll would be more fun if it went bottom-up.

you can't pretend to know who is the best captain It's the most ridiculous thing to evaluate captaincy when you don't get to be in the lockerrom and on the bench. You don't know how much each player on their team respects them, and we will never know

Alfredsson is being asked to put the team on his back at 40 years old.

And he's doing it.

It's hard to determine locker room influence, so we are stuck with on ice influence. I want my captain to sacrifice his body for his teammates and always give 100 percent. Those are the two things that a captain can most influence the rest of his team with IMO. Skill doesn't matter much to me for a captain. So my fav captains are Toews, Iginla, Brown, Callahan and Backes.

Homer voted for Sedin.

Serious answer though, any of Toews, Chara, Iginla, Alfredsson, or Crosby.
