http://www.examiner.com/article/brod...y-through-2014

No question Marty's having another great season and feels like he'll be good to go next year. Seems like the long off-season was good for the old guy!

He also says he would make himself available for Sochi if called upon.

If he goes, it's as the number 3 guy.

And the infinitesimal chance of anyone ever beating his records shrinks by the day.

Yep. That's even if he makes the team, which I doubt.

No brainer for me. Still playing some good hockey, brings TONS of experience, and would at least make an ideal 3rd choice. Also, I consider this to be somewhat of a "dark age" so to speak for Canadian goalies. Guys like Fleury, Luongo, and Ward haven't exactly been pillars of consistency over the last couple of years in particular, while there's no young blue chippers that have really stood out as of yet. I'm also not convinced that Crawford is some sort of revelation either (much like this season's numbers would suggest).

As it stands Price is our only guarantee (likely as a starter even). The rest is pretty much up in the air.

Luongo, Brodeur, Ward it is, then.

Could change if Price wins even a single round of playoff hockey or, should Montreal miss the playoffs, he lead Canada to gold at the World Championships.

Price will be #1 on that team IMO, there is absolutely no way he gets excluded from the top 2 spots, nevermind not being selected.

If Brodeur makes the team it will be as #3.

He'd be great to have there as a mentor for the two other goalies.

I'd love to see Marty as part of another Team Canada, but in reality I think it'll be Price, Luongo, Fleury in that order. Unless MAF implodes again at some point this season/playoffs and Marty stays hot.

I'll take Marty over Ward though no question.

just pass the torch already. the longer he holds on, the worst it is going to be for team canada.

him holding on is best for the devils, because well they had no back up plan for when brodeur was going to retire lol.

Based on how he's been performing this season thus far, Ward has a steep mountain to climb. Luongo is steadily proving his worth once again though.

As good as brodeur is.......and experince is great......but they probably would take Luongo( ie overall game as of right now) for the experince factor.

Will see how hot Brodeur is coming out of the gates....would think he would need to be SIGNIFICANTLY better than the other goalies to get that third spot.....or higher

SIDE NOTE say Luongo or brodeur repsents the top goalie(over price) persay....they would be wanting to give significant games (numbers or opponets) to Price....because in following Olympics... Brodeur is difintly retired...... luongo is now pushing 40.... and reguardless of who the three goalies are ...they would have very little international exp.

Price has a much better chance of being there than Ward. right now I think Price and Luongo (cause of how he's played so far) are leading the way

He should be invited just to tour with the goalies and kind of be like support for them.

about the experience, i would think loungo would bring enough of that to the table especially with international experience.

he's been to 2 olympics with a gold medal to show for it (becoming the starter for the knock out rounds)

he's been to 3 world championships, 2 golds, 1 silver. (starter in the gold medal game in 2003, starter in 2004, back up in 2005)

he's been to 2 world jr championships, 1 silver (starting goaltender).

I think that one vet should go: Luongo
One younger guy should go: Price
I'd probably look at who was hot that year as the third guy.

Are you really going to say we should have Brodeur and Ward over Price? Really? And to answer your question, he won his first ever playoff round in 2008 against Boston.

Is it really on Carey Price that in 2009 when the team was a complete disaster that they lost? Is it really Price's fault that he played magnificent in 2011 and lost in game 7 OT to the eventual Stanley Cup champs? People need to stop getting such a boner for team accomplishments and putting them on the goalie. Ignoring that he already has won a playoff series, pinning MTL's losses in 2009 and 2011 on him is foolhardy.

It's time to move on from Brodeur. For what it's worth I'd rather have him there as the #3 than Fleury though. If we take a 41 year old goalie to the Olympics over a 26 year old star or an all time great in Luongo, then I don't know what to say about Hockey Canada. If he's the #3 guy and he's there for moral support, fine. But Luongo and Price are the guys and that shouldn't be debatable.

the 3rd guy is not going to play, and if he does then the tournament is already lost for team canada so it doesn't matter who it is.

bring a young guy, who you know will either be the starter or back up in 2018 if nothing bad happens.

just to show him the atmosphere, to show him the pressure (without actually putting any on him), to show him the non stop media (makes the nhl media look like a piece of cake).

Looking at that list of American keepers, and then the likes of Lundqvist, Lehtonen and Rinne, Canadian goaltending definitely has some work to do.

wut

Anyway, I could easily see Brodeur getting the 3rd string job next year. Both for the experience/leadership to the younger guys, and out of respect from Hockey Canada. Really, the 3rd goalie is not going to see a minute of ice time.
