The Sharks are literally off to the races

Interesting.. Apparently durning Practice the players raced by category.

David Pollak ‏@PollakOnSharks

Goalies yet to go, but rest of #SJSharks off to the races here. Marleau fastest top 6, Burish fastest bottom 6 and Vlasic top d.

Personally I think Greiss smokes Nemo

The sudden interest in ranking by speed may be worth noting.

If only Pickles would learn how to adequately handle the puck. He'd be a superstar.

Everyone hopefully knows that in-game speed is what matters. We all know how well Rico Fata did in this league...

Marleau the fastest top-6 player? Whoa what a shock! No one saw that coming!

Haha so true. Its not too hard to find that vlassic is the fastest, but he sure isn't the fastest with the puck.

I really want them to release the full results just for kicks.

I was expecting it to be Thornton.

Vlasic is definitely a shock, especially against Boyle and Burns? Whatever skating lessons the team has forced on some of these guys has worked out quite well. Vlasic, Couture, Pavelski, and even Clowe have all made huge strides from when they first broke into the league.

This is actually sort of interesting, gives maybe a small bit of insight as to what DW saw in Burish.

I wonder if Boyle and Burns actually skated in this?

I honestly don't know how Vlasic won the defense race. He just never seems like a speedster when you watch him.

He was going to win, but then he remembered the story his daughter read to him about how "slow and steady wins the race", and immediately thought of 'Steady Eddie'. He raced back to where Vlasic was at the end of the group, picked him up, skated him toward the front, and pushed him over the finish line before himself and Boyle.

Vlasics skating is super underrated soley because hes not a very explosive player. He doesnt have the best acceleration on our defense (id say Braun does), but I would not be surprise if he indeed has the fastest top speed among our dmen. The reason Boyle and Burns look like better skaters is that they are elite lateral skaters.

Sounds more like Cars than the Tortoise and the Hare.

A healthy Burns is easily in the Top-5 among defensemen for straight ahead speed.

I'm sure Burns is just as big a fan of Cars as he is of children's books.

Burns is faster than Vlasic, I think he either didn't compete or is just not healthy still. Burns is one of the best skating d-men in the league, up there with Ehrhoff and Bouwmeester. This is pretty good confirmation that he isn't 100%

I think he just wasn't trying. Even if he isn't 100%, he's still been faster than Vlasic in-game.
