Lyoto is #1 contender, no matter what Gus does in April. Or so Dana says.
Yeah I don't buy it. Gus or Mousasi gets an exciting finish and they get the shot before Lyoto.

Yeah that was interesting. Then he let Dan leave. My guess is Dan pretty much said everything he could've possibly said in regard to the fight when he answered the first question, so Dana told him he didn't have to stay. That was nice of him.
And Chael's isn't? Takedown and pillowfists...rinse repeat. Hes finished how many fights? Where does he go once Jones destroys him in the first? Chael talks a big game though..i will give him that.
At least he's attacking constantly. Not just dancing around.
Chael brings constant pressure and the fight to the other guy. Machida dances, dances, dances some more before looking to counter or pull a Pearl Harbor. I don't find anything boring with wrestling or a fighter looking to confront another guy. Machida's style on the other hand... it's effective as hell, but it's a such a ***** way to fight.
I'm going to assume that "*****" is an unnecessarily censored version of "smart." On the ground, Henderson has an advantage with his wrestling. In a slug fest where both fighters trade shots, Henderson has an advantage with his power. In either case, it means that Machida fighting with forward momentum is a bad idea.
Machida opens up when it's smart to do so, and actually throws a number of high risk techniques. A right front kick immediately followed by a lead right straight while his foot is caught? Lunging knees? He's a brilliant fighter and for those who think that he's intentionally gaming the judges, you have to realize how retarded a lot of judges are. Remember that there are judges who gave Leonard Garcia wins over Nam Pham and the Korean Zombie because he moved forward winging and whiffing punches against an opponent who had lower output but higher accuracy and precision. Machida takes that to an extreme.
Personally, I think it's brilliant to watch a fighter who is so confident in his ability to outclass an opponent with precision, timing and distance that he will say "I'm going to land these 7-8 really good strikes on you this round, and I'm going to make sure you don't hit me more than once or twice." The margin for error is miniscule. One good flurry from his opponent and he probably loses the round.
People have to consider Machida's background. He was a competitive karateka. The habits that have been burned into his brain since he was an infant are point fighting habits. Not just in his level of aggression, but also his actual technique. Most people don't realize that to score a point in karate, when you land a punch your other hand has to be at your hip rather than in a blocking position. So instinctively, you cannot commit to an engagement unless you know that you are going to land, and that your opponent is in no position to land on you. It's pure martial arts, and that's why Machida fights the way he does.
I love a fight like Villefort/Burrell or Grice/Bermudez too, but at the upper echelon of the modern MMA fight game it's about precision, not testing to see whose chin can hold up longer.
Not only is Machida a counter fighter, that would have been the proper strategy against Hendo anyway.
I dont know what people are complaining about. Do they really expect him to go wading in and start brawling with a guy who has better power and a better chin? That would be pretty dumb.
Hendo should have made Machida come to him, and countered the counter fighter.

It would have looked like Anderson vs Cote. Machida is a poor man's Anderson with the same tendencies to shy away from initiating exchanges.

Dana says Lyoto is the #1 contender, but a good finish from Gustafsson and I bet that changes. I don't see the UFC burning another Jones fight this year against Machida, especially with Dana talking up a super fighter between Jones and Silva. My guess is that after Jones beats Chael in April he'll fight once more this year in July/August, likely against Gus, then a superfight against Silva in late Fall in New York.

Really looking forward to Gus vs Sonnen for the belt. Love both fighters a lot. Then a Chael vs Silva superfight to complete the trilogy.
Both Lawlor and Faber looked good. Couple of nice finishes.
There wasn't much going on in the co-main event but Hendo won it. Machida once again gets the decision after backpedaling and running away for the entire fight. It's a joke. Good job by the Anaheim crowd, he deserved to get his ass booed out of the building. Dana says he's the #1 contender after that pathetic performance?
Never been a fan of women's MMA but that wasn't a bad fight. Unlike her other fights, Rousey actually faced some adversity early and came back and won again. Definitely way better than the co-main event.
Also, **** Brendan Schaub. That's what I get for betting under 1.5 rounds.
I dont see how you can say Hendo won. He barely touched Machida. Crap fight but Henderson didnt deserve it.
