I suppose that may offer some semblance for Flames fans.
I wouldn't count on it. They have lots of expiring contracts, they could easily fit him in at 5 or so million (probably all he's worth at this point).

Wardo must be cursing out those "sources" who told him it was Boston.

This is... crazy?

Went to sleep thinking it was Boston, woke up and it was Pittsburgh.

Poor Aaron Ward.

And, what a horrible deal for Calgary.

Aaron Ward is not the only guy with egg on his face this morning

So the rebuild is off to a roaring start in Calgary .....honestly guess you can't expect much more for a 35 year old pending UFA?

Note to Chevy...put the Flames at the top of your list on organization models "not" to follow.

True or False?

Brenden Morrow, 34, pending UFA, and a 5th round pick is traded to Pittsburgh and the return on such a player is highly touted defensive prospect Joe Morrow and a 3rd round pick.

Jarome Iginla, 35, pending UFA, miles better than Brenden Morrow, is traded to Pittsburgh and the return for such a player is... two prospects I've never heard of before and a 1st round pick.

What is wrong with this picture? Because in my mind, one of these things is not like the other. But it should be better than the other.

Read this thread ...

Felt a little sad for them. Then I laughed. Then felt sad again. Then laughed.

I have nothing against Boston. If Iggy went there then there likely would have come a point in the playoffs where I rooted for Boston just for Iggy, but the way this has transpired ... oh man.

Trololololololol.

Ok, I'm done having fun. After this. Actually, I'm not done. I have yet to go see the meltdown that will be occurring on the Flames board.

Wow, what can you say? Seems like a bad deal on the surface for the Flames.

What did people expect for a Liggy return?
They are lucky they got what they did.
Iggy should have been traded 2 years ago

Well, I'd say quite a bit more considering what Brenden Morrow got Dallas. And even Morrow had a NMC or NTC. Logically speaking, how does Brenden Morrow net the return he did, only for Iginla to net the return he did?

It just doesn't make sense. Morrow is a 3rd liner at this point, can likely...maybe... get away with playing on the 2nd line with a guy like Malkin. Iginla can still play 1st line. Not to mention the prospects Pittsburgh has in their system... Maatta, Harrington, Pouliot, etc. MAKE them give at least ONE of them up. Remember, they are coming to YOU, they want YOUR player. Calgary should have at least been somewhat in the drivers seat in these negotiations. Even if Pittsburgh was the ONLY place Iggy would go.

Jordan Staal wanted to go to Carolina, it was well documented, and he wasn't going to re-sign with any team he was traded to because after this season he was set to be a UFA. So, Pittsburgh was in a corner there but even they got a damn good deal for J. Staal (Dumoulin, 1st round top 10 pick and Brandon Sutter). Competent GM's, even when backed into a corner, can make a good hockey trade.

If I were a Flames fan, I would much rather the package Morrow got than what Iginla just got. I mean, both Morrow and Iginla are nearly identical in age, both set to be UFA's, etc. It's just baffling.
