Captain after Matty

Assume we aren't doing so hot when the league resumes and we start trading our vets near the deadline. We ship Matty out.

How should be the next captain of the Kings?

Yeah, I'd guess either TG or TK as well. That is unless we bring in some high profile player.

By the time Norstrom leaves, Frolov or Gleason will be mature enough to handle the captain's role.

Wow, I don't know if Gleason will be ready for years. I am kind of surprised at that. Eventually he could be good material for it. TK? He might not even be a regular roster player for us.

I'd say Frolov, Conroy, Klatt, or if Luc sticks it out another year he could hold the position. I wish I could add Lappy to the list, he would have been a nice capt.

i think conroy would leave or retire before norstrom retires...of that list i think the leading candidate would be alex frolov...but i'll venture to say that grebeshkov and gleason will be candidates to don the C...

I think Conroy will be the next captain. In the future, it will be Gleason.

Trent Klatt should an immediate departure take place.

Gleason is probably 5 years away from captain material.

Does Frolov speak enough english or even have a loud voice to be a captain?

How about Avery?

Conroy, before Gleason

I dont think Frolov has the (lack of a better term) anger in him to become captian......

I would die if Avery became captain

Conroy would get the "C" that you mention it

Depends on who got shipped out. If Army was still there, I could see him take the C. Quintal? Klatt? Luc? Really it all depends on who would still be there....

I think after Blake, the Kings are more interested in having a "quiet" type of captain... which is why Norstrom is such a good leader for us

I think Frolov is the only worthy one of it as of right now unless Luc comes back

What do you mean by quiet? Blake was definitely not a loud, in your face, on ice and in the locker room type of leader. He was a lot more like Matty than a guy like Messier. Now if you mean quiet as in a lower profile player, I see what you mean, and I agree.

yeah but Matty is a player that will set the mood (Im not talking about candles and Al Green records). He plays a physical game which in my opinion all good captains should. I just dont see Frolov as that guy.

IMO, the Captain should be someone who:

1. Has been on the team for more than a few shifts, and
2. Has been in the NHL for at least a few years.

The exception would be the recently acquired dominant superstar (like Gretzky at the time)

It's also helpful if the Captain and the Coach are on the same page.

If Norstrom were to leave (and using this criteria), the logical choice would be....

Derek Armstrong

Yeah, basically a lower profile type of player

I just dont see someone like Army becoming "C". It has to be one of our star players..... I do think Army is underrated, but he's not worthy for the "C" either.

Derek Armstrong has always been a fringe player. And because of injuries he's probably lucky he even played for the Kings, in the 02-03 season. Based on your criteria, Klatt would be the logical choice since Armstrong who I never recall wearing the A and hasnt really been in the NHL for a few years. Plus Klatt is more leadership material. He is on the board with the NHLPA, plus didnt he get unsung hero last year? I know Army got it the year prior or something like that.

Seriously, Klatt or Armstrong would be good choices.

I agree, but when/if the season returns, these guys may be out of the picture...I don't even know if they are playing anywhere, and with the inevitable infusion of youth from Manchester, Army and Klatt may be casualties..That's all my own opinion of course (I love these 2 guys, but I fear the lockout hurts players like Army and Holland the most).

Armstrong was playing in Switzerland but I don't know if he still is and yeah these 2 guys may not be with the team when the NHL rolls back around....
