Change Yak to Paajarvi and a 2nd and it's pretty even.

I would do something along the lines of Paajarvi + for Stafford and Luke Adam. Ideally you try to get Ott as well but since they gave Roy to get him i am not sure they would give up on him just yet.

What do people see in Stafford? The guy is way too inconsistent. Plus we need a LW, Stafford can not play that side.

Paajarvi has been doing exactly what we hoped.. he's still defensively responsible but has been laying more hits and taking the puck to the net more this year. Blows my mind that he's sitting.

As for that Grigorenko proposal.. no. That sets us way back. And Tambo doesn't make trades, you should know that by now.

Paajarvi has 7 hits this season. He's had two noticeable ones where he knocked some people on their a$$es. The other 5 hits were most likely going full speed, stopping a foot in front of them and lightly tapping them. When he drives to the net it's usually with one hand on his stick and he pushes the puck into the goalies pads.

What would we have to offer to get back that package?

That's what I keep thinking every time I read this thread.

I might have overestimated his hitting, because those big hits do stand out in my mind.

Completely disagree as far as driving the net. That is something he didn't do much last year, but did when he had success as a rookie. That draws penalties and creates scrambles in front of the net.. both of which benefit the team greatly.

I've seen him finish way more then 7 checks, the only problem is if you don't plant a guy on his ass or seperate him from the puck you don't get credit. He's finishing a lot of hits on defenseman after they outlet the puck up to the forwards. They aren't exactly bone crushing but it's nice to see he's not shying away from contact like he was in the first two years.

I think right now he's a 20 goal 50 pts guy. He might not be on fire every night but he has the talent to score 30+ goals every year given the right opportunities.

I strongly believe that Stafford is struggling this year because the Sabres are inexperienced at centre. Grigorenko doesn't seem ready to play in the NHL and Stafford is constantly playing with either a defensive centre like Gerbe or a very inexperienced young centre like Ennis, Grigorenko or Porter.

As for the positional isssue, i've seen him listed for years as a RW/LW so i am assuming he can play both wings.

Also Sabres fans say he can: http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/showpost.php?p=56336819&postcount=8

Stafford has many of the attributes the oilers need in their top 6. The bruins aren't trading Lucic and the Habs are trading MaxPac so on and so forth. Therefore, i think you need to look at the 2nd tier of power forwards in the NHL and take a chance on one of them.

I like Paajarvi's game this year as well, however you have to give to get.

Think the Rangers would bite on Hemsky + N Schultz for Staal?

Their PP is brutal, and they don't score much. Plus they have some D to resign next summer with limited cap space. N Schultz is a poor man's Mark Staal.

For the Oil, that would give us our top pairing. M Staal-J Schultz followed by Smid-Petry.

That would put the rangers over the cap for this year +/- $9MM - $4MM. Plus htey're not parting with Staal. You might get McDonough or Del Zotto, but not for anything we're willing to part with......

I am getting more and more upset with the team about Whitney. I get sitting him a few games to get his head back on straight, but if he's going to have any value he needs to be playing. They're just wasting an asset at this point. Play him and then trade him the minute he has a good game and someone calls about him. But don't just let him sit and collect dust.

Will Tambo ever be able to make a move that isn't forced by some kind of deadline?

Edit: And let's try to get this back on topic. If you want to discuss Whitney's tweets, I suggest that you take that to another thread, like this one.

What I take it is actually happening is that pro scouts have been at the games and seen Whitney play. What they've seen is bad, and teams are likely looking at other options around the league before having to go back to look at Whitney.

It's a process. I personally don't feel it's as easy as "what is Tambo doing?" Teams likely are waiting on other options, since with their own viewing, saw a bad product.

I agree, every talking head on TV has said there's some interest in Whitney, whether its Doug McLean, Kypreos, Dreger or even the hints that Spector likes to drop from time to time.

There has to be a deal somewhere, I don't care if its for a 3rd round pick.

Is there anything the Oilers have that the Flyers would want? (no sarcasm)

Yakupov/Hemsky unlikely but possibly

they've had Ben Eager before

Ryan Smyth gives them a veteran presence.

they could always use defense

Unless there is a contract extension. I don't see any GM outside Carolina touching him.

That's because Philly is looking to make some moves. Notably the recent Briere rumor and their acquisition of Gagne.

Any clue as to who you'd want from Philly? I do

Simmonds
Talbot
McGinn could be had for a song
Gervais

Canucks fan. Peace be with you.

Do you think the Oil will claim Arron Volpatti off of waivers ? We just put him on and Mark Spector was jonsen him.
