What do you mean? Before Pardy arrived they were either last or second last is goals against per game. And that's with a good goalie in Leggio.

He was told to play like Lindys system. He will be much different in Buffalo

Coaches aside, by my observations alone the Amerks D was a mess during the lockout. The entire D system had zero structure from the goalie through the D and out to the forwards, however there seemed to be a drastic step change when some players left and the Sabres coaching staff returned home. With the resumption of NHL hockey this poor played transferred to the big club. Is this a coincidence or is it something else?

Some player thoughts on Ruff’s firing and Rolston’s promotion:
Quote:
Amerks right winger Mark Mancari on Rolston:

“He’s meticulous. He’s a very calm coach. He’s easy to talk to. If you question something or if you want to know about your game, you can
talk to him. In my opinion, he’s a little quieter than Lindy is.”

Matt Ellis about Ruff:

“From a personal standpoint, Lindy was great to me. He was a great coach, a great person. But it’s the nature of the beast; I think Lindy knows that. Ron (Rolston) will be a breath of fresh air.”

Goalie David Leggio:

“We’re all happy for Ron. I really enjoyed playing for him.”

Leggio said the change should not have impacted the Amerks’ play. “Tails and Chadd have been here.”

Defenseman Alex Biega:

“Obviously it caught everyone by surprise. You realize you partake in an industry where change happens like that. You just know you have to adapt to it and worry about your own game. We have an unbelievable locker room (in terms of character and leadership).”

A "mess" is a good word to describe the defense. Had nothing to do with the sabres coaches leaving though. It literally changed overnight with Pardy.

Only time will tell....

Rolston still has a roster with all the same holes as Ruff did.

I'm not expecting miracles.

I'm just hoping that Grigs gets a bigger role and is brought along a little better.

Wow, Pardy is that good? What's he doing stuck down in Rochester with how bad our defense has been?

The question is...will it work?
I wouldn't count on it. Rochester is 29th of 30 teams in the AHL in SOG against/game at 32.88--Sabres currently surrendering 33.5 SOG/game. The only team with a worse number is Binghamton, a team notorious for overcounting SOG in its own building.

Heck, I'll be happy if Rolston can simply help fix their spacing breakdowns and limit the amount of prime scoring opportunities.

In the AHL he is. Although even he's struggled the last few games.

It just dawned on me what the best part about this is.

They didn't pick James Patrick.

For years we've thought they've been grooming Patrick to eventually take over for Ruff...and I don't think there was much support for that among the fanbase.

They passed him though to bring up Rolston. Which means...goodbye Patrick!

But honestly, this guy apparently has a completely different coaching style then Ruff, the more I look into him, the more Im interested to see what he can do with this roster.

Maybe Lindy's tie will become Rolstons tie.

Interesting to hear that he hasn't spoken with Ruff at all since the lockout ended, I always thought Lindy talked to the Rochester coaches about how players are doing etc

I wonder if Rolston is thinking about yanking the C off of Pominville?

No chance an interim coach would pull a move like that, and why would he anyways? I'ts not like there is a clear guy that should be captain of this team.
