They had to do something quick obviously. Hopefully he can get the team headed in a different direction and maybe make it interesting the remainder of the year. But will Pegula really want this guy for coach going into next year? IMO Pegula is going to spend some dough next year if the right guys want the job. I'm not sure who them guys are. I just think Pegula is going to dish out some dough for a coach.

McNabb went through a horrendous sophomore slump to begin the year, but has battled through it in the past month or two IMO.

And obviously the D improved when Pardy came. Coaching can only do so much...

How about not making defensemen play like 4th and 5th forwards if they aren't comfortable with it? Especially since Buffalo has scored what, two goals (Ehrhoff and Leopold) all year long on deep pinches. All of the other goals scored by defensemen have been from the point.

I'm pretty sure Lindy Ruff goes to sleep in a Brian Campbell t shirt.

Why is Rolston better than Patrick? Why do people want Eakins so bad when he was trained by Neilson, coached by Ruff, who was also a mentor of Neilson?

I believe Sulzer has two goals off of deep pinches.

I'm torn here. A piece of me -- the piece that watches too many hollywood blockbusters -- wants the team to rise from the ashes of Ruff and kick serious ass.

Another piece of me -- the one based on reason and logic fed by careful observation and analysis -- suspects things stay the same if not deteriorate from here, as these ass clowns lack the skill and commitment to team play to be anything more than average.

Sekera also scored on a deep pinch off a beauty pass from Stafford.

I thought this too, but his record is crazy good. Good reputation as well.

I'm hesitant but generally feel positive. As long as it's a young, high energy coach I'm happy. We could do alot worse than Rolston.

The bush league coach is just here to ride out the schedule; Regier surrendered this season today.

Firing Ruff is just the first step. Too many players on this team who aren't dedicated athletes; in particular Mike Wilson jr. The greatest coach in the history of the world is never going to change that.

Who cares who he was coached or trained by? The guy coaches well, that's all that matters.

Anyone think Rolston might have appeal for Americans to sign here, James van Riems tweeted about him and I know Porter signed in Rochester because of him. Could be a perk. We need a coach that players want to play for

You heard Darcy, they just made the decision today. You aren't going to hire your new head coach within a couple of hours.
Darcy said his decision was made today FOR THE SEASON.

Show me what things above interim coach of Sabres would lead me to believe he's "legit":

Guided the Amerks to a 36-26-10-4 record and a berth in the Calder Cup Playoffs in 2011-12, his first season behind the Rochester bench
A 2011 Bob Johnson Award recipient, which recognizes excellence in international competition during a season
A three-time gold-medal winner at the International Ice Hockey Federation U-18 World Championships in 2005, 2009 and most recently in 2011
During the 2010-11 season, he led Team USA to titles in the 2011 Five Nations Tournament and in the 2010 Four Nations Cup
Led the U.S. National Under-17 team to the 2009-10 campaign World Hockey Challenge title, its first since 2002
In 2008-09, led the U.S. National Under-18 Team to first-place finishes at both the 2008 Men’s Under-18 Four Nations Cup in Lake Placid, N.Y., and 2009 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament in Sweden
Also served as HC coach for the U.S. National Junior Team on two occasions, helping Team USA to a bronze medal at the 2007 IIHF World Junior Championship in Sweden
Led Team USA to a silver medal at the 2007 IIHF U-18 tournament
Won NCAA National Championships in 1992 and 1994 with Lake Superior State University, a team he also guided to three straight appearances in the NCAA National Championship game and four CCHA tournament titles in his five-year stint
Perhaps the most decorated coach in NTDP history, Rolston-led teams have never missed the championship game in either of the major NTDP tournaments, the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and International Ice Hockey Federation World Under-18 Championship. In the 4 IIHF U-18 Championships that he his teams have competed in, they have brought home 3 golds and a silver medal.

2/20/2013 name interim coach of the Buffalo Sabres

Oh the Bob Johnson award, AWESOME!

There's....uh...a lot of impressive accomplishments at lower levels of hockey there. You have to break into the NHL somewhere.
