Because he isn't consistently scoring: it's too far spread out. 17 games played and he's only scored in 5. He can't go on these kind of cold streaks.
This is the perfect subsummation of why Gaborik is a *****.
Simply a *****. I watched 10 games this season? Not sure exactly. Boston and another game he was great. Since then nothing, oh and let us not forget the last five games ... him and Ritchie weakest sauce ever
I agree. As usual, this talk is quite premature. I don't see any major changes to the team coming this season unless a "too good to be true" deal comes together. Gaborik, like it or not, will be a major part of our successes or failures for the rest of the season.
I don't see it as premature I think it's just fun and distracting...not like we want to focus on what we do have right now because it sucks at the moment so a distraction where we fantasize about loading up our team with some grass is greener players is always nice
I've always liked the way he plays, sneaking in and then *boom* - goal. he needs to show up ASAP, though. This is starting to get reminiscent of the 10/11 season.
Of the 'big names' the Rangers have traded for or signed since 2000, Gabby sits at 4th in points per game with 0.95, he moves into 3rd if you take out Bure's 30pts in 31 games. Gabby also sits in 2nd with goals per game average, moving into 1st if you again take out Bure.
I'd love it if Gabby got involved more when he wasn't scoring, but he was bought here to be a scorer, and so far that's what he's done.
You don't move a 40 goal scorer because of a poor 10 game stretch. Especially when he has put up 40+ goals two out of three seasons here. And you don't move him for prospects that can only wish to hit the peak/prime that a top-5 goal scorer can.
If the Rangers win the Cup, it's going to be with Richards, Nash, Gaborik, Callahan and Lundqvist over the next couple of years. That's the fact of the matter. People on here want to get rid of him? There would be 29 other GM's drooling at the opportunity to add a goal scorer like Gaborik onto their top line.

You do if he's getting old, your team is not going to make the playoffs this year but is soldily built and the return is great enough. Do I do it for a pick? No. Maybe something ridiculous like 3 1sts but last year proved that if you get the right players especially for this system that the sum of a teams parts can be greater than the whole. The Flyers also proved last year you can trade a big time player and if you get the right prospects and players you will not only still compete now but your future will still look solid as well.
Gabs is definitely our best option if we want to improve the team now and in the future by trade. Even if I don't really want to trade him I acknowledge this.
Well there is one way to assure that Gaborik will not get going any time soon...That is pairing him with Brian Boyle.
Since any line that Boyle centers will not produce any thing offensively, they should put Gaborik in the top 6 and put Pyatt down with Boyle and Miller..... Even Callahan makes more sense with Boyle and Miller than Gaborik.
I just don't see the logic of having Gaborik on that line. He still has 65 shots on goal for the season, the goals will come....

Yeah putting him w. bottom 6 is formula for failing.
If they want to keep the top 6 as is why not try Halpern as the third line center. He has the speed to somewhat keep up with Gaborik and I've been impressed that he seems more capable than I thought he would be. Miller-Halpern-Gaborik.... It looks ugly but still looks better than Boyle centering any line with a sniper on it....

Gaborik still belongs in the top 6.
Halpern centering Gaborik? I can get behind that. Hes definitely quicker and more tenacious on the puck than Boyle, and his faceoff ability is obvious.
Gaborik's centers in Minnesota were ****ing Wes Walz and Andrew Brunette.

You don't even move a 40 goal scorer because of a subpar (if he has one) 48 game season either honestly.
once Richards gets his **** together (and he had a good game last game), Gaborik will reap the reward. Gaborik and Richards played awesome together last year for the most part.
Gaborik is 3rd on the Rangers depth chart on the RW. Callahan, Nash and Gaborik look bad on the Lw. If he can be moved to solidify a more important position, say a 2nd line young LW or Top 4 young RD + then it should be looked at seriously.

And the team gets significantly worse this year. Sorry, not a fan of trading the best goal scorer on this team that is all in. As someone said, we live and die with Gaborik at helm.

because he's not playing well right now??.... Gaborik is not 3rd on the depth chart when he's at his best.. Also, Torts wants to try him out on the LW since we are weak there, he's still got a year and half to learn it.

How do you know that is true? You have no idea what teams would offer.
Richards was traded for Schenn + Simmonds +
Carter returned Voracek + 1st(Couturier) +
There are deals that are done that help the teams now. Johnson for Stewart + Shattenkirk is another one.

He doesn't have a year and a half to learn it. He will be gone n a year and a half.
Torts favors Callahan and Nash and for good reason.

Richards and Carter were far more valuable players than Gaborik considering that they were 26 yrs old each, signed to long-term contracts and natural centers. It's way different than comparing with a Gaborik who has 1 more year after this one and could walk. 26 yr old Gaborik? He'd net the moon in a trade. I just don't think we'll be compensated fairly for moving him and we're better off keeping him and trying to win now until his contract runs out.
I'm not 100% opposed to moving Gaborik, but you better be getting a damn good haul in return.
That is exactly what I would say as well. A good young top 6 forward or top 4 dman has to be the centerpiece coming back. Perron? Bogosian? Players like that
