Where is value for the Ducks too do that type deal? Hand full of teams would out bid that offer....Ducks needs according to Ducks fans are number 2 dmen ..number 2C..Sniper ..

Ducks will look one of either Cowen Silfverberg or a Turris in any deal

Cowen Puempel 2nd 2014

Silfverberg Noesen 1st 2014

Turris Puempel 2nd 2014

Trade wont happen cause there all major pieces in a future

Would we have the cap space to make an offer at Perry?

To start Da Costa has all the tools/potential to be a good 2nd line C and Puempel has the potential to be an amazing goal scorer. Also i'm pretty sure Anaheim knows they cant get that good of a package for Perry like the ones you suggested above.

If the Ducks trade Perry it will be in a "true" hockey deal. They will not be Interested in picks and prospects, as they will still be a top team in the west. They will look for a guy to replace Perry, plus picks and prospects.

Ex:

Ottawa -> Michalek ++
Toronto -> Kessel
Montreal -> Patches +

Those are the types of deals Anahiem would be looking at.

It's just a risk reward scenario, like others have said if they keep winning they are not going to trade him and compromise a (good) chance at the cup for picks and prospects. Alternatively, they go with what they know has been successful all season (assuming it continues) and gamble on winning it all. The only core piece of a deal that we would be willing to let go and the ducks may except IMO is Michalek.

In that vein I'd be looking at Michalek + but I have no idea what the plus would have to be to get it done or whether I would want to pay it

Havent seen much this year but he seems to be doing well. About PPG, only 5 goals but no one on the Ducks has more than 7 (a guy who just got a hatty) and they have 9 guys with between 5-7 goals so I'm not worried by his 25 goal pace. He's easily a 35-45 goal, 75-90 pt guy. Even last year on an abysmal Duck team he had 37 goals. He plays a power game that not many guys in the league can match and when he has a fraction of a second of time below the hashmarks he's probably gonna score. Makes incredibly strong and intelligent moves to the front of the net even without power, can really back guys up when he's in close. Places his shot perfectly, excellent at puck reception, and he has good hands in close, with the confidence to execute.

Here's a good video from his Hart season:

This is where you see how the Avs really evaluate O'Reilly. If they think he is good enough to actually improve the Flames this year, then they don't accept it. If they think O'Reilly will go there and merely contribute to the mediocrity, I think they let him go. Turning a 323rd overall pick into a top 10 pick and a top 70 pick over a 4 year period is not too bad, especially if they like Stastny and Duchene more than OReilly. That said, I suspect the Avs will trade Stastny if they match. I also think it's a brilliant move by the Flames - if they improve with OReilly and pick outside of the top 15, its a great trade. If they don't they realize it's time to rebuild a bit and they trade Iginla and a few others at the deadline for huge returns, basically recouping their assets. I think teams will be very interested in their available pieces. Iginla, Bouwmeester, Glencross, Tanguay, Wideman and Cervenka could all get great returns.

Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

They won't be able to trade him for the duration of the contract due to having to wait a year(which is past the deadline), so excited to see how this plays out

Wait, if the 2nd year is 6.5 million, doesn't that mean his qualifying offer has to be around 7 mil when the contract is up?

He'll still be an RFA, and QO's have to be 110% of the previous year's salary, don't they?

Which means he's either guaranteed 7 mil at the end of the contract, or Calgary will have to let him walk for nothing.

Plus Calgary will likely be giving up a lottery pick here too.

Ohhh Feaster, you're pretty dumb.

How funny would it be if Colorado decided to match the offer and O'Reilly failed to report to the team?

Flames ownership wants to win games without rebuilding... Adding a 21 year old Selke threat for two picks is brilliant.

they may have added there number 1 C for the next decade with this move

I would imagine a team in their position risking their first round pick in an offer sheet means they're looking to improve and are not thinking about selling assets and drafting whatsoever.
