Colton Orr left the morning skate on Thursday with a lower body injury and will not play against the Sabres. Dave Steckel steps into the lineup in his place. - TSN

Changes on defence remain a possibility against Buffalo with John-Michael Liles and Mike Komisarek available as options. - TSN

James Reimer (knee) also joined today's skate, but departed midway through. Randy Carlyle wouldn't put a timeline on his return, but noted that once Reimer is able to join practice he wouldn't be "too far" away from rejoining the team. - TSN

Thursday Morning Skate Lines

Forwards:
van Riemsdyk - Bozak - Kessel
Komarov - Grabovski - Kulemin
MacArthur - Kadri - McClement
McLaren - Steckel - Brown

Defence:
Phaneuf - Holzer
Gunnarsson - Kostka
Fraser - Franson
Liles-Komisarek

Goaltenders:
Scrivens
Rynnas

I guess early on, but you need good goaltending to get anywhere in this league.

watch any other great team, most of them will have slow periods and rely on the elite goaltending to get them out of it and get them back in the game.

before we had crap goaltending so we could never build momentum, when goaltending gets you huge stops it really keeps you in the game.

Hopefully Steckel centers the 4th line and Kadri gets a legitimate player in McClement playing beside him
Edit: hadn't seen that a few posts up^

Our third line needs Matt Frattin back in the worst way.

39 years ago today, Leafs legend Tim Horton tragically lost his life in a single vehicle accident on the QEW. I'm picking up a box of donuts in his honour tonight. Let's win this one for Tim!

Usually the first game under a new coach in any sport results in the team playing hard for some reason

probably running off adrenaline or something, but I fully expect the Sabres to come out strong in this game hopefully the Leafs can weather the early storm

We can def expect some staged fights or scrums today becuase the sabres are gonna try to prove that they are emotionally invested in the game. Thats what usually happens. Mike brown and Staubitz fought the first game carlyle coached. At the end of the day, i expect a hard hitting game today. We gotta be on our toes today

McClement is hardly a more offensive player than Orr...

Why, because he can skate faster?

Jay is by far the superior player defensively, but offensively he has little to no creativity. Kadri isn't going to start rackin' up the points because he has maclement on his wing.

Because he doesn't treat the puck like a grenade.
