Email protocol ?

If you think this message is about you, it isn't intended to be.

What is the feelings on protocol for replying to trade offers by email or by other mediums (text, WhatsApp, HF PM, etc...)?

I have a few GM's that have not responded to 2nd emails and I don't want to feel like a jerk/pest by sending a 3rd.

On one hand, I should take the hint that these teams aren't interested or have more important priorities and respect their non reply as a non interest.

On the other hand, the league really does survive on GM interaction and replying to a trade offer shouldn't be seen as a burden.

I know we have GM's with some personal issues and work life situations that really need to take precedence over our little game, but what is everyone's take on how persistent we should be and reasonable expectations?

I tend to agree with you Rob, I think if you send the same offer twice, the GM should at least say sorry not interested if that is the case.

there is of course one exception, we all know who that GM is.

Everyone should definitely respond to every offer. The only thing I would say is that if someone has been unresponsive, maybe send a second request via other means (e-mails get flagged as junk, people don't check the boards, I haven't been on ICQ for 3 years at least, etc).

Anyhow, i was simply looking for some dialogue on how to proceed.

Is it seen as being a pain the ass if a GM keeps making contact?

The league rules state clearly that there are certain minimum standards that apply to remaining a GM in the league. One of those, and to me the most important, is responding to emails.

If a GM doesn't respond and you've given them a shot and it seems that they are continuing to ignore you then I recommend a gentle public prodding (HEY So and So, You've got email post) on the boards. If that doesn't work then tell the admin - myself, Matt G., or Brock - and we can take it from there.

Yes. I agree. It doesn't take much to reply with a "sorry I don't like that offer" or "I'm not trading that player" or a "quit talking about my players in the showers" email...

What has helped for another league of mine is make one large convo in Skype with all the HFNHL GMs added.

There, we can talk about anything, and from there GMs can PM each other.

Any thoughts of making one big HFNHL chat on skype?

I think if you don't want to be contacted about trade talk then you really shouldn't be in the league. If anything is really a pain in the ass then you shouldn't be in the league. This should be fun. It is fun. I even enjoy the (mostly) daily chore of simming (mostly). Really its that simple.

Sometimes we all miss emails or forget to reply and need prodding. But everyone has to reply. There are no exceptions. Unless there is some secret rule I don't know about.... or some GM so bad at replying that they never do.. which I think is perhaps what is being alluded too

We can do that. We actually have that going on What's App now. Often find 50-100 chats suddenly pop up. We talk about pretty much everything, life, current events, hockey. It's awesome. Send me your phone number, get the app (its on BB, iOS, Windows and Android... so no excuses unless you are a dark ages flip phone pager carrying old person.... )

I might have a good excuse, but it's self-inflicted to a degree.

Regarding e-mail responses though, I agree with the tough stance that if a GM can't respond to trade offers in a timely fashion, he shouldn't be in the league. At a minimum it's disrespectful and unfair to the other GM - nobody likes to have offers hanging out there - and it also suggests you either don't have the interest or time in this league. It's not something that, unfortunately, can really be monitored, but I agree that we should consider cracking down.

Ya, that's the isolation of living in a remote part of the developing world. But no Whatsapp mobile smart phone gadgets, just a laptop and a flip phone.
