You don't need to learn defense in junior. A lot of guys become defensively sound after making the jump. He's got his whole career to iron out weaknesses. But as of now he's way too good for the Q.

Mackinnon missed 11 games in feb-march with a knee injury that Drouin played. In those 11 games....

Drouin had 2.5 pts per game...rest of season 2.0
Mooseheads went 11-0
Moose averaged 6 goals per game...rest of season 4.9

I doubt he'll be back, but if so I think he'll manage without mackinnon

I don't see why he'd be too small to play in the NHL. Kane was listed at 162 lbs in his rookie season. Drouin is the same height and already 185.

I'd be surprised if he really is 185. As he was measured with little over 5% body fat, with calipers though.

Well, should know soon.

I do not agree with this...Drouin is drafted as an offensive dynamo, so making the jump to the NHL he would have to get use to faster game, stronger players like every other rookie does but now he has to work on his defensive game and not ruining his confidence at the same time.....this is a fine line to walk, guys like Pierre-Marc Bouchard did not do it well getting rushed, this is the teams future, he can come back to Halifax, work on getting stronger and working really hard in the defensive end as well as still be great in the offensive end.

when i see players getting rushed to the NHL it just drives me nuts.....James Sheppard was also rushed, he came back to junior but he really should have been sent to the AHL after his junior to work on the next level up, he got by just on strength and skill but his skating was really slow, his game was strength and over powering guys well in the NHL he was unable to be the strongest on the puck, his confidence went and that is hard to get back.........Pierre Marc Bouchard should have came back to Junior for at least another year to work on his skating and strength even though his skills dominated the QMJHL he needed to work on other things to better himself but now he is a decent player but not what he could have been, he scored a 140 points in his draft year and he should have came back to work on two way and strength and skating because for a smaller player his skating was a little above average but nothing great, his speed and strength really needed work he could have worked on that in junior for another year and came back the next year stronger, faster and more ready for the NHL.....it is not worth rushing a player. If the player is good enough then keep him up but do not try to have him develop attributes in the NHL that are not junior quality yet.

I'd say he's close. He has pretty decent tree trunks for legs, etc. Solid frame/core, just not overly tall. If he weighed in at, say, 178 lbs, though, how much would it matter?

Whichever team he goes too the 9 or so games he gets at the beginning of the season will be huge for him

Not saying it matters a lot, if at all. Esp. at this point.

Jonathan Drouin was #1 on my list as the best player in this draft. Elite vision, hockey sense, skill, this kid is a player. We will see in 3-5 years time but I am confident in saying he will be every bit as good as Mackinnon, and perhaps better.

This kid's going to be special. I see no way how he wouldn't have gone #1 if he were a center.

First Stammer and now Drouin, why can't my team have any dynamic offensive players like these?

His backhand is just incredible, could watch it again and again. Can't wait to see this kid in the NHL.

No reason Tampa can't lead the league in goals next year.

I wouldn't see anything wrong with that comment. Alex Kovalev looked like the best player that's ever played the game at practices.

Then again Kovalev scored a thousand points in the NHL so not too bad I guess.
