That's why you take off your helmet before a fight if you have a cage or visor.

Which he can trade to ensure the team has the proper mix. To me though, they need a coach that can get the team working hard on both sides of the ice. Buffalo stopped listening to Ruff, but he could probably do wonders in Edmonton.

Too bad they just made a change to Kreuger. How often does promoting the associate coach actually work out? I guess moving up from 2nd last in the league to 7th last could be regarding as an improvement.

You also become much more dangerous to all the other players who aren't wearing cages. Feeling of invulnerability from the added safety + big and potentially dangerous piece of metal on your face.

Orpik was pretty good for them, he was 18th overall.

Yeah Pittsburgh actually drafted and developed defensemen in advance of their star forwards though. Takes a lot longer to bring young defenders into the league, and when you do they tend to not get paid as much right off the bat. Now look at Edmonton and you will see a ton of forwards that are all going to be coming off their ELCs at the same time while the defense that they drafted is still a few years away from even playing in the NHL.

Just in case you want to see every angle of Staal getting hit...

Honestly. You rarely see a guy flail around like that, but he must have been in a ton of pain. Probably doesn't help that getting hit in the face is always a huge shock to your system.

Edit: There goes Hamrlik to NYR.

Supposedly the Rangers put a claim in for Hamrlik. Not sure why, hopefully it has nothing to do with Staal.

Which is why there is no issue if everyone is wearing one. How many cuts, teeth, eyes, broken bones and such would be saved if cages were mandatory? If everyone had to wear them nobody could complain about having them on.

To think their silver tongued coach, who the fans all now hate, somehow talked Schultz into going there...

Didn't they even hire a new coach this year?

They probably need to can Tambellini.

Or they just said "Look at our defense. You will play 30 minutes a night."

They'll just pick 1st overall until they finally build a team. Or end up moving 'em when they all command 6m each...

They way they are going they're going to draft another forward with their first overall pick and wonder why they can't win

Promoting Paddock did what for us?

Krueger can't win.

Maybe a bit of bad luck too?

They are bottom 5 in league scoring.. I don't think anyone expected that.

I don't know if Lindy Ruff is the solution, but he is available. Edmonton needs more of a proven coach.

Can't score when you are stuck in your own end for long periods of time. Hard to get out of your own end when your defense sucks.

I just think they didn't have a good plan. Hall is awesome but if they took Seguin instead they'd be a lot better off.

Also their drafting has not yielded a lot of players which leads me to believe that thier whole organization is not the greatest.

And when I say thier drafting I mean other than the #1 picks overall or first rounders.

Disagree. Hall was the best of their 1st round picks. He seems to be the only one who gives a damn in Edmonton these days.

They need to move RNH or Eberle for a legit stud on the blueline, and find a goalie somewhere. And they need a real leader on that team. The vets there are lame-duck players: Hemsky, Horcoff... they all know the writing is on the wall for them and they'll be out of Edmonton sooner than later. It's real tough to be a real leader with that kind of mentality.
