I would want Pominville, Myers, Grigorenko and Miller
for
Ovechkin and Braden Holtby
so a 1st line foward, our best defenceman with upside, our starting goalie who is still very good, and our top prospect for you overpaid one dimensional winger? I loved Ovi but his prime is behind him.
Doesn't make much sence for any team to give up what WSH would want.
Pass. Trading Pommer and Myers for Ovechkin creates more holes than it solves...especially since we've already got Vanek scoring off the wing. We need what Myers can potentially become and Pommer's 2-way play more than we need more scoring.
And the one where we add Grigorenko and Miller for Holtby...there are no words for how bad that is.

The more scoring the better. The only reason the Sabres make this trade is because if Ovechkin can turn it around then he is a potential 50-60 goal scorer, which he has done before. If that were to happen are you going to have me believe that what Myers could potentially be and Pominville's two way game is more valuable than Ovechkin's scoring?

odds are against ovi that this will happen again - the risk far outweights the gain

So the odds of Ovie bouncing back to his normal self (5 seasons of ~50 goals) is smaller than Myers bouncing back to his one hit wonder? Myers is young and all, but Ovie is doing everything you can ask of him besides putting it in the net. He's creating chances, mixing it up from the right wing, setting up teammates, etc. Once his shooting percentage returns to normal his scoring will be back at a normal pace! IMO he has looked a lot better this year, and looking at his stats from the KHL I'm not that worried.
And Washington doesn't want Myers and his contract, either.
Fun fact, if not for the lockout prorating contracts this season, Tyler Myers would be getting paid $13M more than Ovechkin this season. $12M base salary and $10M signing bonus for Myers this year.

Fun fact, Myers is 23 and nowhere near his prime, especially as a defenseman, while Ovi has been rapidly declining over the last 3 seasons and looks to be headed downhill. If Myers rights the ship, 5.5 cap hit is a steal.
If I'm Washington I trade Ovi for Pominville and Grigorenko. Hell I probably do it for either one straight up - get rid of that albatross of a contract. Of course, that's assuming there isn't a better offer on the table. Which there probably would be.

Yes, given ages and trends, that's correct, also keeping in mind that this trade would also include Pominville.
Ovechkin's a great player, but the trade does not address Buffalo's needs. No need to slag on any of the players involved, it simply isn't a good fit, never mind Ovechkin's contract.

Actually it is a good fit because every team could use more offense. If this trade were pulled off and Ovy scores 50+ plus next year, is it still not a good fit? Please, this not a good fit, or not what a team needs talk is silly. Like I said before you do this trade banking that Ovy can return to form, like say Mogilny when he was traded from Buffalo to Vancouver. If Ovy returns to a prominent goal scorer, then the trade is great for Buffalo despite what some posters feel Buffalo's needs are. You can have one awesome scoring line with Vanek and another with Ovy. Then you are just a highly offensive team.

And what if he doesn't return to scoring 50-60 per season? Then what? You traded a forward and a defenseman for just one forward - thus creating yet another hole. Ovechkin is now Buffalo's albatross.
