Winter Classic idea

What if for one game it was the USA vs Canada? Would that not be one amazing game, and to keep it not all star game like the winner gets $2 million bucks to split 20 ways

What about all the Euro talent the NHL has though? Would be kinda weird just to have them sit on the sidelines.

With outdoor games there is the chance that poor ice conditions could cause injury. Having a high intensity game on poor ice might be a bad idea. I'm also not convinced that the US audience would care. When the US won the World Cup in 96, was it a big deal? The Olympics are big because, well, it's the Olympics.

Terrible idea.It would seclude non-Canadian/American players and deprive the fans from being able to watch them. Also, the quality of play would be similar to the ASG, the game would mean nothing and 2 million split 20 ways is peanuts for these guys.

I think the Winter Classic concept they have now with HBOs 24/7 leading up to it is great the way it is.

And if they were to go that route it'd have to be North America vs World

You'd be leaving out three of the best players in the world in Malkin, Datsyuk, and Ovechkin.

Hes suggesting it for ONE game.

The way the format is now, it excludes the entire Western Conference minus Detroit and Chicago, but no one's complaining about missing that talent.

This year, it wouldn't have been a bad idea to schedule a post-season All-Star game/Winter Classic like the Pro Bowl.

Obviously it won't happen now, but it would have been a good replacement for both games.

I like the idea but the omission - as others have pointed out - of Euros is a problem.

I think North American vs. World would be a more interesting match-up...

This. The NHL would make so much profit off of this, just for one game. Have it nationally televised, make new jerseys, advertise it similar to 24/7 (to a lesser extent because they would have to follow 30 teams).

Well the thing is those two would generate the largest TV audience. You don't need to have Europeans, and a North America vs World is too all star like. People play harder when it's for exclusive national pride. Maybe you do another one with Russia and Sweden in Europe. Like play that one at 2 and at 6 broadcast the main event
