It was a hip check gone wrong however the end result is a significant factor in whether there's a suspension...

It's like drink driving, you don't intend to kill someone but when you do you've got to face the consequences because of your wrong doing...

Mark Fistric deserves a mention in this thread. Though he does get out of position occasionally

When you look at what else gets posted on the topic of hipchecks, Kmac was quite possibly the best ever. He knew how to deliver them so hard, clean, and completely devastating.

Most of these other hips, especially the Nucks excuses, are pretty much low bridges. Totally lame.

Doughty has some pretty clean ones and uses his size well, and Emmelin is possibly the current best.

Meh hipchecks are over-rated. I prefer the Kronwallian ass-check

Methot threw a decent one earlier this season in Ottawa, he got an interference call on it sadly. seems like many big hits in the league these days...a penalty is an automatic!

It's almost as though people have no clue how predictable they are around here- even when it's right in their face on the first page.

Subban does this weird hipcheck really well but uses his back. It's prolly better than a hipcheck cuz he won't get called on "low bridge" penalties cuz contact is higher up although I hope he has some good padding there heh.

It's being taken out of the game, by suspending every player who does it cleanly now.

Not suspensions, but they have been calling "clipping" which is ridiculous when you read the actual rule and compare it to the hit.

Hip checking can also be dangerous to the hitter, isn't that what injured Hamhuis? All it takes is for someone to lift a knee in to you and it's big time pain.

In a properly delivered hipcheck, the player isn't supposed to run into you and somersault over your back.

Edit: to show I'm not a homer or a hater, here's Rob Scuderi doing it wrong:

I think if Hall gets suspended, we can officially announce the end of the hip chack as a legal play.

That's like saying that hitting isn't a legal play because Torres tried to make a clean hit and instead got someone's head. Just because Hall TRIED to make a clean hit doesn't mean that's what he did.

If you think what Hall did was a hipcheck you need glasses, badly.
