I predict that while that order will change it going to stay pretty much the same except for two teams at risk.

With only intra conference games this year and 3 points games a six points lead on 9th place is pretty much a clinched playoff spot by now. So you can punch the playoff ticket of the Habs with 8 point lead on 9th place, Sens 6 Pts, Devils 6 Pts and Pens 6 Pts. And likely the Bruins who may have just 4 Pts lead on 9th place but have only played 14 games.

Leafs and Flyers have only 4 points and 3 points lead on 9th place and played more than anybody else this will put them at risk if a team who not in the playoff picture make a run for it. By the way that starting to sound like a big "IF".

Note that as of now only Tampa in the Southeast is making the playoff and that only because first divisional place give you an automatic top 3 seed. But with most of the teams so far out of the eight ball I predict the only spot still open by the end of the season will be for top of the Southeast.
I don't understand all this about punching a play-off ticket at this moment in time. They said it during the recent Buffalo-Leafs game but I could see the sense in it.

If I had to bet on a regular season game this year between the habs and the rangers, give me the habs 9/10 times. In the playoffs I see the rangers stepping it up for some reason and playing flawless and they have all the tools, elite scoring, above average to elite D and elite goaltending...It feels like it'll be a good year for the rangers, I hope I'm not wrong cause I like NYR

I think one of them will make it in... At least 3 NE teams will make it. But they will have to hope either Philly or TB/Carolina can't make it in. It definitely comes down to 10 teams though. In an 82 game season Philly always finds a way to get in but in a shortened season they have to start winning soon and go on a 5-6 game winning streak (I think they will)

Boston Bruins
Pittsburgh Penguins
Carolina Hurricanes
Montreal Canadiens
New Jersey Devils
New York Rangers
Tampa Bay Lightning/Philadelphia Flyers
Ottawa Senators/ Toronto Maple Leafs

I give Philly and Ottawa the nod. I want to say Toronto > Ottawa because of the injuries suffered to Ottawa but I won't say it until Ottawa proves me wrong. Good teams just find ways to win.

My dream final this year is definitely a 2011 rematch.

It'll be interesting to see which teams slip in to the playoffs last minute this year.

Dallas and Detroit likely to sneak into the last slots in the West.

I see Ottawa and Philly sneaking in last minute in the East.

Yeah, the combination of the shortened season and the hot start would mean the Hawks having one of the biggest collapses in NHL history to not make the playoffs. If they win 10 of their final 29 games they would likely be a 7 or 8 seed.

Well, the leafs have yet to show me that they can win games when the pressure to make the POs gets real.

And my gut tells me that Otts injuries are going to catch up to them.

Surprised everyone's putting Philly in their lists. Watched them play against the Leafs twice now, Leafs are a better team.

Vancouver wouldn't meet the Hawks in Round 2. Assuming they finish 1st and 2nd, then the Hawks would play Detroit and the Canucks would be up against Anaheim.

In reality, yes the Leafs are better, but this is HF boards, where the 2006 and 1968 Leafs matter when talking about the 2013 Leafs. It doesn't matter they are 100% new team. Even if they make the playoffs stupid fans will say they don't deserve to be there.
