Just wonder what people think is going on with him , he looks like a total different player so far this season. Poor on backcheck not cashing in on chances Is it mental ?
Not sure what it is, but his compete level seems way down this year. There are too many times where he gets stripped of the puck, then stands around like a deer in the headlights instead of getting back on D.
Doesn't look as fast or mobile to me. Isn't driving to the net with or without out the puck much at all. Doesn't have his mojo it seems.
Perhaps his success earlier in the AHL, before the lockout ended, made him get into some bad habits: maybe he's still doing things that worked well in the AHL (he was piling up points with Schultz) but just don't cut it in the NHL. Hoping he gets back on track soon.
I think its a lazy thing. Hes not working hard enough or going out of his comfort zone far enough to be the best he can be. I have always found him a very lazy player especially defensively.
Brother just cashed his first series of pay cheques...
Hard to be urgent with the game when you have the next 6 years locked up.
(This was written in jest. I actually think Eberle has shown a lot of heart over the past year. He has given the best interview a few games back where he appeared genuinely pissed that they were performing badly)
The young players are not properly insulated by veterans, they are having to learn on the fly and lead themselves because the GM is a moron with no clue how to build a hockey team.

Yup. If it's this painful to watch, imagine how bad it is to be overburdened with the expectations but so little support and fail night after night.
He was always lazy defensively even going back to his pats years.
This for the win. Eberle is about as one dimensional player as we have on this team. Filthy sick hands but somebody that doesn't bother pitching in on backcheck, ownzone and has always had high GA.
Last year the Oilers gave him easy minutes, as many offensive zone starts as possible, tons of PP, huge minutes. They put little if any expectation on all round play and allowed Eberle to cheat high all year. Production wise it worked out.
Now he's getting covered, matched, because teams noted success and made adjustments. Guys getting more physical on Eberle as well and he doesn't much liike the rough stuff.
Eberle needs to make some serious decisions whether he's taking the next step or not. Right now his level of commitment is not sufficient to being a good NHL player.
Him and Nugent need to take a serious look in the mirror.
The only thing The Nuge hasn't done is produce, his defensive game has been great and the overall play of that entire line has been dominant more often than not. For whatever reason, the puck just isn't going in. Part of it may be confidence, as I've seen The Nuge miss badly from some clear shooting positions. Some is plain puck luck. As for Ebs, he has been a little complacent in his own end, but I think people are blowing things way out of proportion.
Stop. No one is buying your catalyzed crackpot "system" of hybrid buzzwords and New Age bulls**t.
Fixed it for you.
Regarding the OP, I think it's mental. It's easy to doubt yourself when your confidence sucks. Too much over thinking and trying to be perfect.
I'm wondering if getting the A on his jersey didn't contribute to the problem. Taking it away from Hemmer seemed to work. Not that I'm saying they should take the A away from Ebs, just suggesting it may be a contributing factor.
