Player for Islanders jersey?

Hey fellas - figured I'd stop in and ask for an opinion. I'm thinking of picking up an Islanders jersey soon and I'm looking to see which player's name/number I want on the back. I'm a closet Isles fan (hard to get much NYI news [or even games] here in Ottawa) and I'd love to rock out what I think is one of the best jerseys in the league.

So the question is - who do you think will be staying in your organisation for years to come? I hate outdated jerseys (like my Volchenkov/Heatley/Hossa sens jerseys that I'll ritually burn someday) and I'm hoping to have someone for years to come.

My choices (in no order):

*Andrew MacDonald - I LOVE how this guy plays. Always going up against other teams' best players, kills penalties and has been one of (if not the) best D on the team.

*Tavares - Do you thing Snow will ever trade this guy?

*Niederreiter - Were the rumors about him asking out of the organisation for real? Or do you guys still consider him a major future prospect?

Appreciate any thoughts. And nice win against the habs

{MOD EDIT}
Hopefully Tavares is an Islander for 15 years, can't go wrong with that. Also, Hamonic is a warrior for this team and will be a blueline mainstay for a while - another solid option.

If you're going to drop $175 on an Islander jersey, Tavares is probably your best bet.

McDonald is a 4th line player and Neiderreiter has 1 career goal and probably wont be here in 3 years.

Tavares, Hamonic, Nielsen, Grabner all safe choices.

Everyone else?

Less so.

Go to capgeek and see the players exisiting contracts. Yes they can still be traded but unlikely in most cases until FA.

If you want to be safe, but boring, go with Tavares. If you want to be unique, go with Tim Thomas.

Colin McDonald is a 4th line wingers. you're thinking of Andrew MacDonald (who really is just a solid #5/4 dman)

Go with JT. he'll be here for awhile.

This.

Though Hamonic or Martin wouldn't be bad choices either.

Current players I definitely would get: Tavares, Hamonic, Grabner, Martin, Nielsen, Moulson, Nabokov (if he re-ups)

Current players I definitely would not get: DiPietro, Reasoner

The rest..I really don't have any opinion on...

Players I may consider waiting for: Strome, Poulin

If you're worried about getting a player jersey for someone who might not be on this team in a few years, you're probably better off with a DiPietro jersey. He ain't going anywhere anytime soon...

Sadly, that is why I went with DiPietro many years ago. That hasn't worked out too well. (Not that I'm putting JT in the same category as DP.)

As for the opening question: JT is the safest and something that you can proudly walk around in. Hamonic is also a good choice. One that I hope is around for awhile because I like the way he plays is Czikas. I wouldn't go that route yet. Wait until Snow locks him up for 5 years at low rate.

Even a more important question, are you going white or blue?

Tavares and Hamonic are the only guys I feel comfortable spending the next five years or so on the Island.

Tavares ain't going anywhere for quite some time. I got my Tavares jersey 2 years ago (before the "A" was added). My nephew got his Tavares jersey a few days ago with the "A". Now I want a white Tavares jersey. Not only is he the safe, but as they say boring choice, but, he is THE face of the organization, and turning into an elite NHL player, top 10 for sure (finished 7th in scoring last season, and is 4th so far this year). If I picked a secondary player, it would be Hamonic, love the way he plays, and should be wearing the "A" instead of Okposo.

Hmmmm, hours after I type this DP is put on waivers. Let's try it again:

For me personally

Tavares
Cizikas
Grabner

If you want a jersey for cheap, DiPietro should be on clearance soon

I'll pick one up

I got a Dickey Mets jersey right after they traded him at Modells for $20.

Go with DiPietro -- a fan favorite and a nice contract. Itll be a discussion point among your hockey friends...

Since DP is going to be gone, it looks like it's my time to get a new Isles player jersey, so glad to see this thread lol.

I prefer blue, but since I have DP in blue I was thinking of getting white. Why do you have a preference for white?

Just to help, I was thinking of going with Martin. JT is too easy, and I love the guy, but he isn't my favorite Islander. With DP gone, Martin is now and thankfully he has a decent contract and seems to like it here.

Not that it matters in hockey. It's such a risk rather than other sports with the cost.

My other option would be Moulson. Grabner maybe. Martin, Moulson or Grabs would be a good 3 to choose from.

I'll never forget how Modell's had Bill Guerin jerseys going for $40 after he was traded. Jerseys just sat there for over a year

I have a blue Tavares but want a white one as well. We'll see in the coming days.
