How many OHLer's do you see being drafted this year?
The last few years, the OHL has been hovering around the 50 players drafted mark. I'm not entirely sure I see that being the case this year. High end talent wise, it's a great year. But depth wise, I don't know if I'm a huge fan of the crop the OHL has available. If I were to guess, it'd probably be around the 35-40 mark.
Great read Brock. Nice to see so many media sources!
Perhaps the biggest conversation piece is Ross McLean's take on Nurse as 1st in the OHL and perhaps a top 3 selection overall. Thoughts?
Interestingly enough, Ross wasn't the one who had Nurse ranked first. That was me.
It's not that I don't love Monahan. He's an incredible player and someone I've grown a great appreciation for. Just a terrifically intelligent player at both ends.
The case for Nurse over Monahan comes from the idea that I'm not sure I see Monahan developing into one of the league's (NHL's) top forwards. A solid 10+ year career? Absolutely. But I'm not sure I see him being an Art Ross candidate. Nurse, on the other hand, is much more raw, but has the potential to develop into one of the NHL's top defenseman. His development curve has been fantastic thus far and he has great athletic bloodlines.
And this is something that a few other contributors hinted at. Ross being one of them. By the end of the season, I'm not sure I see it being quite as cut and dry as people believe; that Monahan is going to be the first OHL player off the board in June.
