Toronto needs a big two way center and minnisota has grandlund who looks like he could possibly replace koivu in a year or two. If minnesota is out of the playoffs by a fair margin and with the cap going down would a trade like this work for minnesota?

No. Never.

Asking price for Koivu starts with Phaneuf+Rielly. Not worth it for you.

Every team in the league wants a big 2 way center, no sense trading the one you have. All it does is leave Minnesota looking for a new big two way center.

Phaneuf + reilly is over payment for koivu but minnesota doesnt have to trade him so I understand what your saying.

Wild have no interest in trading Koivu. End of discussion.

Won't happen, unfortunately for us Phaneuf + Rielly is more realistically the asking price. We won't be able to give up quantity for quality to land someone like Koivu. In addition, this trade would set us back a year or two in development, if that was the road we wanted to take, we might as well trade Kulemin, Grabo and Gunnersson for picks and keep our 1st and hope we can find our own Koivu in the draft.

No quantity > Quality.

People outside of MN seem to think that Parise/Suter are the leaders of the Wild, but it couldn't be further from the truth. Koivu is that guy. He's the Wild's version of Iginla/Doan/Callahan/Brown/Staal/etc.

By the way, why would Granlund's emergence (which, btw, seems a bit rushed in and of itself) force the Wild to want to move Koivu to clear space for him? Usually good teams field a lineup with more than one good center last time I checked.

Koivu is the Minnesota Wild. I honestly could never see a scenario where he's traded.

Also, quality > quantity.

How much more does Koivu make that this would actually mean much cap wise? Looks like Minnesota is taking on more cap there but I can't access capgeek at work...
