However, I would have liked to see Engo or Glass go after Gudbranson late in the game when it was 3-1.
Instead of passive-aggressively defending Disco, why not provide an alternative theory as to why the Pens sandpaper has disappeared despite still icing several gritty players?

Fights don't do much to protect stars - as evidence by Crosby still getting a concussion, Malkin getting his knee tore up while the Pens were big fighters - but there's something to be said for standing up for each other, and making players - especially young ones like Gudbranson - think twice before finishing their checks against our stars.

(And no, there was absolutely nothing dirty about the play)

The silver lining is that the Malkin injury will force Bylsma to make some different lines, and with that comes the possibility that he will pull his head out of his ass.

Who did Roberts and Malone attack when Tampa sent Sid to the dressing room with a busted ankle?

It's got nothing to do with retaliation. It's got to do with standing together and for one another. You think guys like Malone and Roberts would've given two ***** if it was a clean hit. Nope. Someone would pay for Geno being sent to the dressing room.

Why should we be sad about the lack of physicality in a game where we owned the offensive zone and our opponents did nothing untoward outside of arguably The Pimp's stick trip on Orpik?

Gudbranson did to Malkin what we would always want any of our D-men doing to any star coming in on goal hard.... make him think about doing it next time.

+ for Nisky and Beau
+ for DJ getting in a goal

Apart from that, the only thing I can say is they need to get the Winchesters to salt and burn the perimeter around Consol, because that is some straight up bad juju that's happening to this team.

I dont get it, one game you guys complain about the team being undisciplined, and in this one you guys are upset we didn't start throwing cheapshots because one of our players tripped and fell into the boards.

This year Neal's basically been an Alexander Mogilny clone who sometimes backchecks (oh and who also takes terrible penalties with no regard for the team). Maybe that's not the best example but long story short, when he's not scoring he doesn't really do anything anyone else can't do.

Being physical/tough and being undisciplined are two different things. It's undisciplined for Letang to play into Rinaldo's hands by slashing him and taking a penalty. It's physical/tough for someone on the team (God knows who at this point), to light Rinaldo's ass up the first chance they get. Or to, God forbid, take a few shots at Giroux. I never considered the Pens of a few years ago to be undisciplined when they were the best (and the toughest) team in the league.

i'm just saying, there should always be a player that will step up to protect his star player, 30 years ago or now, it shouldn't really matter

I think it's two parts. He can't pass up a hit like that because that's his job. But I don't think he could tell Malkin was in that awkward position before he started the hit.

I think he's been a big reason as to why that Malkin line isn't working.

Of course it's sacrilegious to suggest Neal needs to be moved to a different line to see if he can get going.

+ Fleury, Bennett, we won

- Malkin injury
- GDT. That may have been the worst GDT of the season so far (not talking about the OP)

Are you suggesting that the two incidents were exactly the same thing? Please, that's beyond the pale.

I'm not sure if "the real big guy" is behind it, but if he is you have to listen as a player or a coach......he signs the checks.
