Hawks beat Jackets 2-1 in OT/SO

Toews with the five hole, Kaner with the stickhandling, and Crawford with the poke check win it in the shootout.

This team has so much skill but not a sharp shooter among them...they waste so much great offense by not being able to finish around the net, mostly due to never elevating the puck.

Carry over from the last thread: Don't get the Hayes skating complaints.

I would like to see more grit and dirtiness from the Hawks. They will need it come playoff time.

He clearly cannot keep up with Kane. Don't think Pirri or Morin could either.

He looks a lot quicker on his feet than last year, though.

been a common theme for years. play goalies like mike Smith and bobrovsky who are down all the time and just whack pucks along the ice

Kane with another great effort. His consistency and determination this season is astounding.

Hayes isn't NHL caliber.

Well I was so looking forward to seeing him tonight and granted I only saw last 1/2 of game and ot/shootut but I thought his skating looked bad at times, almost clumsy imo.

There aren't many players in the league that can keep up with Kane, nevermind someone who's 6'5/6". It was their first game together, give it a couple games.

Nik Hjalmarsson with yet another really good game. Both he & Bolland are UFA after next season and.....Bolland looks like the expendable one. Would never have said this after last season.

He's not the turd Brunette was, but he's clearly dragging down the line. This team is so good because they're all quick and up tempo. He kills that.

Not a big problem though. He'll be back in the Rock soon and working on his skating more.

He doesn't have a smooth stride, but his straight-line speed is better than Bickell and he's 6'6". His acceleration is also pretty good, especially for a big man; he's got pretty quick feet.

Yes I know, have been a fan for forty years...living here in Pittsburgh I watch a lot of Pens games and want to throw up when night after night I watch average Joe's turned in to stars (Dupuis, Kunitz, etc) as they get great chances and bury them under the cross bar likes its no body's business.

That shot by Bolland was disgraceful! But the sad part was I didn't even get excited because I knew he wasn't scoring.

Hayes is maybe trade bait perhaps. But not a fit on this team. Happy for the two points.

I'm glad they won so I didn't have to keep ranting about Bolland's idiocy.

He falls down a lot too...doesn't seem to be strong on his skates though one game does not a season/career make.

He definitely looked better as game progressed.

His skating isn't going to improve. He's going to be 24 in a few months. Luckily, his skating isn't bad.

Yikes. This is worse than all the people that said/say Max Domi's a bad skater.

Hayes is not a pretty skater. Not saying he is. But when it comes to skating tools: Speed, acceleration, agility - especially for a big man - there's nothing wrong with his skating.
