Richard LeDuc

I met Richard LeDuc!

He`s not such a big guy, but he played with Bobby and you know what he said? He said that Derek Sanderson wasn`t drinking between periods, but he might have been smoking.

Shocker

I was in the Forum many many moons ago with Dad, in Lafleur`s comeback time, and our seats were directly accross from the tunnel heading down to the Habs lineup, and at one point, Lafleur was standing about 20 steps down the hall, puffin away..............but I`m not sure if your talking cigs or other products

Teams dressed 19 for games in 1973-74, when Leduc was with the Bruins. He wore No. 18 and was their fourth-line LW. The team that finished first overall (113 points) and lost in six to Philly looked as follows ...

LW ... C ... RW
12 Cashman ... 7 Esposito ... 8 Hodge
9 Bucyk (C) ... 19 Sheppard ... 17 Schmautz
21 Marcotte ... 11 Savard ... 24 O'Reilly
18 Leduc ... - - - - - - -- - -- - ... 14 Forbes

LD ... RD
23 Sims ... 4 Orr
20 Smith ... 10 Vadnais
6 Edestrand ... 25 Doak

G: 1 Gilbert // 30 Brooks

Sanderson, upon his comeback from the WHA late in the 72-73 season, finished out that year with the Bruins and began the next season with the Bruins, including time before and after the trade of young forwards Chris Oddleifson and Fred O'Donnell to Vancouver for Bobby Schmautz (Sinden's good idea for replacing McKenzie). It was a little weird with O'Donnell continuing to wear 16 with Sanderson wearing 27 when he got back in '73 and 17 in 73-74 (while Schmautz took 16). Ironically, Schmautz took 17 when Sanderson fell out of favor and failed to finish the season on the roster. He would be dealt after the season for rangy center Walt McKecknie. I'm going way off track (not for the first time ever, I know), but just to put the Sanderson reference in context, Derek appeared on TV38 moments after the Bruins won the Stanley Cup in '72 in NY puffing on a cig during his interview with Cusick and Pierson. Typical of the times, not only for French Canadian players.

Saw him take a slapshot off the noggin at the old Garden when he was with the Braves. Came back out in the 3rd period all stitched up.

Remember him as a 4th line Nordique back at the Garden circa 1980.
