Apparently the Devils still play the trap.

I wouldn't lose any sleep if Wolski killed himself after that pathetic attempt at a shot. He doesn't deserve to play in the AHL, let alone the NHL but that could be said for half of our team.

No more remote controlled mini blimp? Very disappointing.

What a suffocating team. Ovy and Backstrom honestly can't generate anything?

RMNB trying to defend Wolski because of hi s cheap contract. Missing the point that our Semin replacement was a FA dumpster dive and is a pretty fringe NHLer

I am at the game. Thought the same thing , but people filled in the seats after the game started. I'd say at least 85% filled. Not a bad crowd for a last place team.

Incidentally, that period was good counterexample of reffing. After last game, Tolliver postulated there was a simple reason the Caps were called for five straight penalties in 3rd period and the Devils no penalties -- the Caps committed five infractions and the Devils none (i.e. the refs didn't miss any calls).

In the period we just watched, there were 4 or 5 plays which technically could have been whistled as penalties and a couple which maybe should have. But the refs made a decision to let play continue. I stand by my contention that if similar approach had been used last game, the Caps would have won.

Further, if refs are NOT going to 'let 'em play' and are going to whistle every single infraction, it's important they do so against both teams. Otherwise the reffing takes over the game and becomes a primary factor in the outcome. Which happened last game, IMO.

On other topics ... what were Chimera, Ovie and other Caps laughing about after the play where Chimera got pushed part way over the boards at Devils bench?

That actually looked like a pretty tough angle for Wolski.

It was a lay up. That's a shot that every forward prays they get to make.

Holtby just saved his own ass. Dumb decision to play that puck.

I have to see the replay again, but it certainly looked like the way the puck came to him made it pretty hard to direct it on net with a forehand shot. He also wasn't in position to turn to his backhand in time. He could have and probably should have scored, but it's not nearly as egregious as people want to claim.

Boy, replay of save on carlson's point shot was very telling. 25 was showing no effort at all to bump the D-man out of the way or obstruct goalie's view. Looked allergic to contact on that replay.

It was a lay up. Happened right in front of me. 17 shot it at Hedberg, but Hedburg wasn't in the net.
