How are you all feeling about Fleury's ability to deliver the team to the promised land. I know he's won a cup before, but I can't help but feel nervous about his consistency. I think the upgrades amongst skaters has just amplified this feeling for me. Am I being paranoid?
Fleury’s had a .923 save percentage since February 1st. Other than that 4 goal first period in Philly, he’s been really, really solid. What worries me the most is any issue he might have going forward from getting his bell rung. Consistency wise, he might not be great, but if he can keep that sv % above .910, the Pens have a chance.
I'm more confident knowing Vokoun is there to calm him down, push his game, and give him a night off now and then.
Pretty much this, don't think it's a surprise that he's playing the best hockey of his career in a season where he is playing much less often than in year's past and has a guy that can at least push him more than your normal joe backup goalie. MAF just may be the type of goalie that needs a lighter load, as his previous best season occurred in a year when he played much less than normal due to missing time with injury.
he just needs to be average and not have a meltdown like last spring and i feel that's good enough to take us to the promised land. we dont need him to be in god mode, although i wouldnt be opposed to that either. we can score enough goals to win playoff games.
Pretty confident, honestly. The team has been playing well in front of him for the most part and he's responded extremely well when needed. Like Jacob mentioned... having TV around to push him and motivate him a little has helped a lot. Regardless of TV's rough patches.
Just in case, though... Cory Schneider for Harrison Ruopp, Bryan Rust and a conditional 4th round pick.
When he plays simple hockey and does not flop around - he's an elite goalie. The problem is when his athleticism takes over and he tries making big saves instead of the right saves. Not every save needs to be spectacular.
To me the reak question was how confident am I in our defense, which includes our goalies. And the answer would have been not very. But nine goals allowed in nine games showed that they can play playoff defense. Adding a massive crease clearer in Murray also helped. So now I am very confident.
People always judge goalies in a vacuum. In reality their team effects their play as much as they do. I feel much better about this team ddefensively than I have all year.
