Grange with an update...

@michaelgrange
Anthopoulos says he talked Lawrie who told him oblique injury last year was '10 times worse' than current strain.

Anthopoulos said Lawrie might be out 2-3 weeks, possible less. Should be good for opening day

For some perspective and context.

The pieces surrounding Niese may have been different though. May be a stretch but I could see parts of the package being there on both sides.

Nice job by White Sox for locking up Sale to a similar extension given to Lester and Romero.

Sale was pretty awful the latter half of last year and was only a bullpen guy in the previous 2 years.

Not saying he's going to flop, but it seems kind of risky to give a guy with only one half of one year of success as a starter a reasonably rich, long term contract.

He was fantastic in the first half though and he might have tired down in 2nd half due to innings pitched because he was used as a reliever next season. He was only used as a reliever last season because it was the quickest way for him to pitch in the majors. Would have needed to stretch his arm out and move up through levels to pitch in the majors and there wasn't enough time for that.

He has fantastic stuff, great results so far so I think the extension makes sense. My only cause for concern is Sale staying healthy because his delivery is a bit funky, for a starter at least but White Sox are crazy great at keeping their arms healthy so I trust with what they are doing with this extension.

If he had a huge year, you are looking at a much bigger extension.

There were rumors he could have been playing 1st with Tex out. Guess he wants nothing to do with the NYY

****ing WBC. Thanks a lot. Call Reyes back too.

Backup would be Boni Im guessing. And then someone else taking a bench spot. LaRoche would be my guess. IF versatility and has hit well this ST

Dominican WBC team is ridiculously fun to watch

Since half our team is Dominican that's probably a good sign.

random bit related to my avatar help request earlier.

I found a good example of what I want to do in an idea for Bonifacio:

http://www.voxxi.com/the-miami-marli...p-controversy/

while with the Marlins, Bonifacio started a tradition/trend of flashing a "Lo Viste" sign (basically a sort of peace or "V" sign held sideways at the eyes among all his teammates.

This turned into some mild controversy about them over-celebrating and riling up opponents

So for the avatar I want to jokingly blow it out of proportion/overreact and equate it to taunting the opposition or even maybe flashing gang signs.

Something like that is what I'm looking for to fill out the avatars.

I still have to figure out ideas for Johnson, Janssen, Santos, Cecil, Rogers, Lincoln, Loup, Encarnacion, DeRosa, and Blanco.

EDIT: removed Thole from the list. Got something good for him.

Yay! I helped! Here's another one...

Santos: "Everybody wants a piece of me" http://espn.go.com/chicago/mlb/story...-nestor-molina

I had a couple of conversations with my agent, and he said, 'Look, once you signed that deal, it's a team-friendly deal and you're going to hear your name come up in trade rumors quite a bit, but don't look too much into it,' " Santos said
Don't really know if he's made any real splashes in terms of controversial comments lol

Not now. At the end of the season. He's, what, 42? 43? Not all that surprising.

Yankees are a mess right now. Tex out, Granderson out, Arod out, Rivera retiring and there were rumors Granderson, Arod and Cano failed a PED test. It was shot down but the same guy broke the Melky news last year.

Red Sox have the same problems as last year.

Baltimore overachieved last year.

Tampa and Jays could be the guys to beat in the East

Tampa did trade there #2 starter so they may have taken a little hit that way.

with the potential steroid scandal the only person that would hurt the yanks if it was found to be true is Cano. The other two would ride it out through their rehab anyway.

I've heard a fair amount of analysts from around the league say that Baltimore last year wasn't a true fluke, but they definitely overachieved. They still might be decent this year....good enough that we can't take them lightly as opponents.

The O's were a solid team last year, sure, but they are an 85-win team, not a 90+ one...they went 29-9 in one-run games, there's no way they maintain that success this year; even if they lose more of those games they are still a good team, but not a playoff bound one, and I can see them regressing more than that.
