Saunders squeaks a chopper through the hole at 2nd. Votto & Morneau score.

3-0 Canada.

1 out, Saunders at 1st.

EDIT: Saunders steals 2nd.

EDIT 2: Saunders advances to 3rd on a ball in the dirt.

They look embarrassed from yesterday. Awesome start.

Wild pitch. Saunders to 3rd. Still just 1-out.

EDIT: Robinson singles. 4-0. Runner on 1st with 1 out.

Chris Robinson slashes a single into shallow right. Saunders scores

4-0 Canada. 5 straight hits after the 1st out.

and then a double play wipes out the rest of the inning.

Still a 4-0 start says that at least the offence has come to play

Blue Jay Adam Loewen ends the awesome 1st after hitting into a DP. He's been brutal so far.

Hopefully our pitchers show up.

Instead of a double play, they surrender a run.

Aww geez. Just looked on Wikipedia and found out that Tyson Gillies went to my high school's 2nd most hated rival school.

blargh.

Could be worse though. Lawrie went to the #1 rival school.

So that's why I got a text from my roommate saying "Votto "

Amount of ****'s I give about the WBC: 0.

I hate the timing of it .. Right before the MLB season, so players are either very rusty or they opt out of the tournament because of spring training

We could still win this year. Just need to work our ***** off.

However, the Jays winning won't improve that much. Look at the US team. They have a couple great players, but they have a lot of **** too.

I simply mean that the Jays having success should drive more interest in Canada for baseball and hopefully increase our talent pool. Canada never really produced major league talent in any significant numbers until roughly 10 years after the Jays won the first world series.

That's mostly because the best of the best of US players skip the tournament.

Except for some pitchers and Russell "I should be able to play whatever position I damn well please" Martin, all our best guys showed up.

This is a place where being a hockey nation pays off. There's so much pride in being part of team Canada for hockey, that it rubs off onto the other sports too. There's greater pride and desire in representing our country.

Michael Saunders is awesome.

Think maybe Anthopoulos can sucker the Mariners into taking Rasmus or Cabrera and some scrubby mid-tier prospects for him?

Yes. Same age, similar numbers. CF are usually valued more than corner OFs.

Value-wise, you could probably make the trade straight up. In real life, a mid-tier prospect should get it done unless Saunders is really valuable in the clubhouse.

It'd be a nice deal. We could use Saunders after Melky is done (if he doesnt stay) since Gose will get CF.
