He strikes out to much and is not overly proficient on defense in any position. Could be a good backup player though.

He's only struck out twice in 18 PA's this spring. He struck out 1/3 of the times he was at the dish last spring.

I think he'll have a better year, but he'll still strike out a far share. Great utility guy though. 1B, C, 3B, LF, RF.

------------

Sucks that Leroux won't get out of this inning. He's pitched well.

He wasn't very good in his (admittedly limited) time during the season with the Jays.

Problem is that he's a utility guy that's just not good enough for any of the positions he plays. He offers uniqueness because he's a Util player that can catch, but he's not a great catcher, not great as a corner infield defender, and his bat isn't good enough for any position in the field.

He's popular because he's sort of a quirky player (he's from Brazil! He's a catcher! but he also plays 1st! and 3rd too!) but it's not likely to be a big loss.

I was being facetious. There's no way they'd give up Saunders for the enigma that is Colby Rasmus. I know there's more value in CFs, but a ton of shine has come off Rasmus since his rookie season. Unless Saunders comes out this year and has an iffy start to the year for the M's, I can't see anything like this happening for the Jays.

Oh my god Whitt. Seriously? ****ing terrible.

EDIT: Thank god. Thought he was taking Leroux out for sure.

Good job, Leroux. Good outing fella.

that's awful. Epically, historically, nearly unplayably awful. We're talking Mark Reynolds at his whiffing-est awful.

In nearly 100 MLB PAs last year he struck out 28% of the time. And in his minor league career, he's not been below 20% since lo-A and rookie ball 4 years ago.

For comparison's sake, Arencibia's K% in his 3 big league years has been 27-29% and he gets brutalized for it by tons of fans. But at least JP provides a healthy amount of pop for a catcher. Gomes doesn't.

I like him as a story too for the crazy utility mix and being the 1st brazilian and because he genuinely seems like a nice kid. And I did sort of get sucked into rooting for him and get sad when he was sent down or not given more of a chance, and when he got traded. But an off-season to re-examine what he gives and where he could potentially go in terms of career growth, I realize that there's not as much to his game and future as all the hype would indicate.

I'm not so sure on Saunders.

If he plays center, then he has value. This is because his .246/.307/.432 line is not going to cut it as a corner outfielder. It will at center, though. It's fairly adequate production for a center fielder.

However, the Mariners have Franklin Gutierrez who is probably one of the best defensive center fielders in all of baseball. His defense is so good that he's allowed to be anemic offensively.

How awesome is it that we were able to turn a easily replaceable utility man and John Farrell into a controllable back end pen arm with great stuff.

If he had as many as bats as Arencibia did in his rookie year, he'd have been on pace for just under 20 HRs.

I don't care about his story. I liked what I saw last spring. I'm not sure he'll be a great player, but I'll keep my eye open. In hockey, I usually have a good for identifying unlikely prospects somehow - although, like you said, I do get attached and my fair share of upsets (Towers).

Which is why I think we could get Saunders if we really wanted him.

I like the kid and I love that he's a Canadian, but it'd be a pointless trade with Gose coming in anyway.

Iorg is about as good as baseball as I would be with a blindfold around my eyes.

... I miss you Leroux.

What a throw by Gillies!! Wow!!

I don't know if Robinson ever tagged him, but whatever lol. Don't think Garcia ever touched the plate, so leaving the basepath results as an out anyway.

Yea, he wasn't properly tagged, but the runner didn't even touch the plate, so moot point I guess.

I was mad at Russell Martin for not coming. But after seeing who our SS is, I kind of see why he wanted to play SS.

Wow. Albers is ****ing terrible.

Please don't give up the lead Albers, you bum.

I thought my stream was on delay after I saw the two posts above and that deep fly ball.

Pete Orr has been our best player through the first game and a half, IMO.

Saunders has been excellent today, but he was very average yesterday.
