Not a big fan of this pick. I've seen quite a bit of Seymour, and he's never done anything that really stood out to me. Big, rangy guy who can play physical, but who is raw and needs work on pretty much every aspect of his game. It's hard to even say what a "strength" of his currently is.

I guess he could be a Reid McNeill, but McNeill was much more solid defensively at the same age.

Would next year be his overage year? if he's raw then he should probably go back to Junior as I don't think we have space for him even in Wheeling .

He's got one more year of junior eligibility. Hopefully he gets big minutes in Peterborough (unless he's dealt over the summer?) to round out his game.

Kidney: by rangy do you mean tall / awkward? Is he like a young Hal Gill type maybe, still catching up with his body?

I mean tall, but not overly thick yet. Kind of a skinny kid (relatively speaking -- most hockey players are still bulkier than the average teenager) who could do to put on another 10 to 15 pounds in order to not look a bit awkward out there battling for the puck.

Like I said, a Reid McNeill type of pick where *maybe* there's a shot at a bottom pairing NHLer. But even that, he's going to have to work on pretty much every aspect of his game. At least McNeill was already considered solid defensively at the time of the draft.

I will say, however, that much like Scott Harrington, I was more impressed with his rookie season than his sophomore (or in Seymour's case, third season). Hopefully he bounces back the same way Harrington did.

A solid player, should see him in the NHL soon.

“He plays a hard, physical game,” assistant director of amateur scouting Randy Sexton said. “Clark Seymour is a denter. He leaves dents in people.” - http://penguins.nhl.com/club/news.htm?id=638711

Saw him play in Erie once. Definitely a large body. I believe he had the assignment of keeping McDavid in line a few times. He did a pretty decent job. In fact, he had the crowd mock-chanting his name in the third. I do think that got in his head though as he had a few bad shifts and then I didn't see him much more.
