All that needs to be said right here folks.

I thought you were supposed to want your team to win?

fire kruger? really? I like what he's done with his lineup choices thus far and benching players like whitney and smyth, (and then of course, promoting smyth to the top line when he's playing better)

I think you guys need to put your hatchets away and quit looking for scapegoats, this is a team game and today's effort (or lack thereof) was a team effort.

Anyhow... The main point of interest for me is that today's game should have been a "split-decision"

<rant>
There is no reason that some games should be worth 3 points, and some worth 2...

Did we deserve to win? well, kinda...

Do we deserve FULL credit? no, not really...

-- regulation win = 3 points
-- overtime/shootout win = 2 points
-- overtime/shootout loss = 1 point

it's that simple!

all games should be equal points awarded, this is so obvious. I guess that's why they *the NHL* is so strongly against it.

</rant>

Note: 3 point scoring system does not apply to the playoffs, of course. In the playoffs you have wins and losses, not points, and you play until the game is over. That's it.

Why are you frustrated? Because Smytty played lots of minutes? He had a great game today. Although regarding his 1st star status, I would disagree with that. I think Mike Smith should've got the 1st star. He made some wicked saves today.

Yep 4 forwards on the PP was definitely playing not to lose type move.

glad you said it and not me. Brownless went to the darkside a few years ago and lost the plot. He is still trying, but somewhere along the line he changed his appraoch to things and it became less professional and more tacky looking

The main thing that frustrates me about coaching (and if it's a coaching thing or not I don't know) is the constant passes back into our own end which result in turnovers which result in penalties or goals against. It's like they're afraid of the puck out.

Oh please.

The simple fact is that this team isn't going to accomplish anything. After 5 games into this season that was very obvious. This has nothing to do with the Oilers, it has to do with them finally getting rid of an incompetent GM.

Nice. Edit by the way

True. But considering the state of the team I don't blame him for snapping and going a little crazy.

I quite enjoyed this game. Not a boring game at all. Dropping a 40 bomb. Khabby finally winning a start for once. Refs were the same as they always were but made up for it on the Doan screen. Fistric aiming his bottom at anybody entering the zone (made me laugh).

Two goals were scored combined 5 feet from the net.
Need more greasy goals like these.

Guess to be a fan you gotta just kiss the teams ass all the time.

This team is going to be mediocre with that attitude, but whatever.

What a fantastic, well played game. No one made any mistakes, and gluing your two biggest offensive threats to the bench during a 4on3 is totally the best move to make.

GJ Oilers.

Smyth and Yakupov both had good games today. Yes, I wanted to see Yakupov on that PP (4 on 3 PPs are perfect for cross ice one-timers), but Smyth was effective today too.

I think Krueger was playing a hunch.

Yak will get his time though. It just wasn't today.

Also, I want to see Yak on the first line and Hall on the 2nd when Hallsy gets back.

I'm surprised that I haven't seen the crying about who was picked for the shootout...oh yeah, we won...I guess that changes things.

Anyways, great game by the Smyth Belanger Eager line IMO.

Nice to see the win.
Smyth didn't play on that line, Jones did, Smyth was on for one shift, but I agree the line as such played well. Jones is well needed.

As for the coaching, I think it's way too soon to talk about firing anyone and to claim Yakupov was our best player is just not true. However it was an odd move to take Yakupov off the first line when he was the one who actually got that line going. Only reason I can see is that he was benched for his sloppy giveaway in the neutral zone as a lesson for the future, which I guess is ok, we need to avoid him getting the bad habits of Hall and Eberle. But to hand out lessons when we need a win after a few losses, I don't know. Seemed to me he played not to lose.

Overall an ok game, we were the better team and should have won in regulation. Didn't really have much luck with the calls either. So a step forward and I hope they stick with the lines that started the 3rd. Yak looked good on the 1st line and MPS did as well with Gagner and Hemsky.

Nah it's pathetic wanting the team you cheer for to lose. Plain and simple.

When you're *****ing about a win, it's sad.

When your top offensive defenseman isn't on the pp and your clutch goal scorer (yak) isn't on the pp in ot I would say that is playing not to lose. Yak didn't even step on the ice for one second of ot...

Ok, fire Tambo...

Who gets the GM chair next? knowing that Edmonton is an extremely unattractive market for free agents to sign, and has to deal with a fan base that no matter what he does, will call for your head on a plater if they don't get exactly what they want.

If Tambo is fired I doubt that his replacement will do much/any better.

A few things that won't get much notice. Just 2 mins into the game Gagner covering back on a poor D pinch and breaks up a play routinely. At least half a dozen other times tonight Gagner is back on D playing 2 on 2's and looking like a regular D. Nobody notices it when it works out well. Team was pinching a lot today and Gagner covering better than anybody.

Now, 10 secs left in the game, Smyth has a braincramp, passes puck back to Potter who doesn't have a stick, Gagner reads play, skates quickly back into own end, beating two Coyotes (who would've been home free) to the puck thus saving a serious scoring opportunity.

Gagner in OT wins a faceoff but wingers manage to not recover puck, officially thats probably called a lost draw, even though it isn't.

Gagner with a howitzer(also skated into a screen) that was labeled top corner. On some nights thats going to be a goal.

Smyth great redirection on the tying goal. Smyth and Gagner best forwards on the day. Smyth making things happen now with any linemate. Nice to see him get Harti the goal. That kind of thing is huge. Not only the tying goal but gets the kid on track. People will recall Smyth did the same thing with Paajarvi.

Jesus...what a terrible post. Yeah, it's the fan reaction that dictates the direction of this franchise. Unreal.

Try watching the game objectively once. If you can't see that the team actually put in a fairly strong effort to comeback from 2-0, fine but calling out fans for not complaining after a win??? Just brutal.

i think it (4 F in the OT PP) was a way to claim all puck possession we could and wear off the d-men. they looked prone to questionable positional decisions all game long and Krueger wanted the PP brigade to get into their heads and make them have a brain fart. boring to watch of course, but if they scored a goal this way i'd take it. would be much more delighted to see Nail fire his nailgun home and score a frag though
