I'm sure most will accept a 25 cents for every 100 dollars tax. The entire state just did when they voted in the last election to prevent schools from facing cuts.

Mostly, i'm happy for the fact that they are showing that they want to keep this team here. Whatever happens happens.

Sacramento said no increase taxes though. Our deal is designed to where the general fund and tax increases are not effected.

They'll change their mind, just as KJ and Co. hope the Maloof's and NBA changes theirs.

I still think Seattle will win, but I'm glad to see the arena deal going forward and the city really fight to keep this team here.

I think arenas are a racket, but there's something to be said for the no statewide financing of stadiums law that localizes the problem - if the people of Sac want to take this step then that's cool with me.

There's also something to be said about the Kings being the Hartford Whalers of the NBA... I don't think Sac will ever have a team again if the Kings leave, so that's the stakes here. It would just be too easy for the NBA to say "Go root for the Warriors".

.
Paying for schools or paying for sports arenas. Not really a comparable situation.

I don't see why there ought to be. They're selling city assets to pay and would own this asset.

Not really, but the vote results would end up the same. Sacramento would vote in favor of the Kings if they had to.

These guys need to give up. Let the team move to Seattle. Does Sacramento really want to be on Seattle's hate list?

Meh as a dude from the Seattle area, I wouldn't hate on them for keeping their team, I wish Seattle's City Council put up this much of a fight 5 years ago when we lost the Sonics

Having said that, I still believe that Seattle is the clear cut favorite and Sac is playing major catch up at this point

If the Kings move to Seattle, will the Kings' history (1951 NBA title as the Rochester Royals, division titles, players' stats, franchise records, retired jerseys) also move or will it stay in Sacto? IIRC, the Thunder are essentially an expansion team. They have nothing to do with the Sonics as far as history goes.

Nah, I say let them fight, Any good fan base would fight to keep their team. More power to them.

Second point, not really sure if people from Sacramento are bothered by being on fan's hatelist. It is not like any real business is going to be impacted (We all know that California Politician that tried to look at Microsoft and some of its taxes was all for show.)

Seattle kept the Sonics history when they moved in 2008, sort of like the Cleveland Browns in the 90s.

So I'm guessing the Kings will become the Sonics and the Kings history will stay frozen until another city (Kansas City, perhaps?) gets an NBA team and picks up the name.

Seattle Kings would make sense though (located in King County) but that won't happen.

I believe the Thunder share the Sonics history. The understanding was that both teams would share the same history if/when Seattle ever got an NBA team back.

Why would the NBA locate to KC if the Kings move? Sacramento is a proven NBA market.

I think Seattle will get sole possession of the team's history if they get the Kings

If you look in this article from 2008

http://seattletimes.com/html/nba/2008035531_soni06.html

Quote:
According to the agreement, if Seattle is granted an expansion team in the next five years, that franchise will share the Sonics' history with the Oklahoma City team.

If Seattle lands a team through relocation of an existing franchise, most likely the Oklahoma City team will retain sole possession of the Sonics history.
According to that, OKC will "most likely" keep the Sonics' history if the Kings move, but the next two paragraphs say it's not as simple as that.

Quote:
Carr is considering several proposals, including a scenario in which the Oklahoma City team's history begins in 2006 when Bennett bought the franchise for $350 million from Howard Schultz.

"It was a condition of the deal for us that we keep the history, the name, the logo and the memorabilia," Carr said. "That was a demand from Day 1. To that extent, the paragraph was put in at our insistence. It got changed a lot in the end."
It sounds like Seattle will fight to make sure they get the team history.

The Kings used to play in Kansas City. But yeah, the NBA could expand to Sacramento too.

Why would OKC want to keep Seattle's history? Why would Seattle want to keep Sacramento's, if the move goes down?

Nothing money can't fix.

If this move to Seattle goes through, Sacramento would have to be #1 for getting an existing team, or expansion (unlikely at this time).
