He's been bad for a week or so and I agree he isnt a good captain. He's obviously lost the team.

But he is light years better as a player than Stafford.

I'm waiting for that point where the players realize what they are apart of a sinking ship that wont find a way to stay afloat this time. Many of these guys will not be playing with each other next year one way or another. I guess when Ryan Miller stops ranting after a loss we know that it has finally clicked. I think part of the reason that they suck so bad right now is because most of them have no clue.

Anyone have the interest/effort to give us a

"since the new leadership was anointed" record

remember that great video of lindy giving the C to pommer?

From that day on, what's the sabres record?

Lead by example? This team needs more than "leadership" and who would honestly "listen" to someone like Kaleta. Teams need a talented player with leadership skills.... not someone who tries hard (people won't respond)

If your first response to how the team played was "well, we had chances," and not that you're embarrassed with how the team played, I'd rather find someone else. And saying that the team is going in the right direction couldn't be further from the truth.

So drafting Vanek 10 years ago, an trading for Briere and Drury 9 years ago is a reason to keep him today?

More than half that list isn't on the team. Drury retired.

Some of the names you listed have got to be a joke.

Rivet? Really? Moore?

I wouldn't mind Pomminville staying around and your line of RoR and Pomminville had me excited but he can't stay around as captain.

I'm not even sure the guy is an assistant/alternate capable player (other than seniority) in this league let alone captain.

I've watched quite a bit of those top 3 picks this year, but JFB would probably still have more insight as well as the rest of the draft.
I've seen Yakopov and he's fit in well on a team stacked with multiple #1's. I thought folks said Grigs was rated a lot higher at the beginning of the season and fell off because of injury's/illness.

Clearly, Grigs isn't ready. I can't fathom how Sabres mgmt kept him if they had any inkling of this during the abbrieviated camp and 1st 5 games.

You made my point on Alex and Yaks. They're surrounded by talent. I just want to keep my feet on the ground if we do land one of the latest bunch of 18 yrs. olds..

How about 7? 8?

It's been a decade since Regier has drafted a legit first line player, an Vanek was a no-brainer at that pick

Well...to be fair...it's not like he's had top 5 picks every year... outside the top 5 its hit or miss and is mostly incumbent on the players.

Which is why its hard for me to give any praise or grief to people in terms of their drafting ability.

Drop one more and they'll have as many losses as they do points.

If ever there is a time to rebuild this is it. This is why I want to get a new GM in here that isn't just trying to save his job. There is no quick fix for this team, they need a complete rework.

No thanks.

Ott can have a letter just not C. He whines and complains far too much on the ice to be leading by example out there. He's not clutch enough to cover that up the way Mr. Intangibles Jonathan Toews can.

Pominville still has a lot of value. Very good 2 way player. He is not cut out to be a captain of a team, however. He's also 30 years old. If the right offer came along.....

All you have to do is look at our team.

We have 1 legitimate top line player. Vanek. He was drafted 10 years ago.

We have 1 legitimate top line D man. Maybe. Ehrhoff.

We have a couple guys that can play Thier roles... But we are devoid of top end talent.

That's on the GM.

I think Darcy needs to be in touch with Ray Shero about Pomminville. It's TOO good of a match. The extra year could kill that deal though.

Stop pulling my leg.
1) you keep moving the goalposts on this. Stop it.
2) hockey players don't exist in a vacuum defined by their worst moments in your memory.Rivet was a legit top-4 dman when acquired, not to mention a legit #2 in mtl and sj. Moore is an exemplary 3C and was a decent 2C the year he was acquired. Do you really not remember this, or are you just being disingenuous?
