That's actually a relatively nice package, but the Sens can't deal Chara after the season he just had.

I love Kalinin, BTW.

Why would Ottawa ever do this?

It is a fairly nice package I admit. But it looks like a deal only a team that had shallow depth and who was re-building would make. A 1st rounder and Mcarthure won't help Ottawa in the present. The Sens are all about the present.

If I was Ottawa I would take that package and run. Drury can play center and it totally solidfies their #1/2 C spots. It also adds a guy that is gold come playoff time. Kalinin is very solid and top 4 already. Adding a 1st and a very nice prospect is even more icing on the cake.

Ottawa would be dumb not to do this, Buffalo would be dumb to do this. They give up far too much depth, and for one player, it's not worth it.

However even it is value-wise, makes no sense for either team.

Not a knock at all against Buffalo, but I doubt they could put together ANY package to entice the Sens to deal Chara. Few teams could, but Buffalo has nothing to address Ottawa's needs.

There's no way Muckler would turn this down.

Kalinin is a budding #1 d-man,and while Chara is a great d-man,adding a playoff stud,a solid prospect and a #1 in a deep draft along with Kalinin is a no-brainer.

Now,if Regier actually thought about doing this,he should get his head examined.

Zdeno Chara > Chris Drury (small, scoring forward, no need), Dimitri Kalinin (soft, although talented defender who isn't needed on perhaps the NHL's best defensive corps), and Clarke Macarthur (average Prospect) as far as Ottawa is concerned. The first rounder is very nice but it's not enough to land (IMO) the best defenseman in the Eastern conference.

If Buffalo wants Chara, Ottawa wants Miller, Drury, Roy, Kalinin, Vanek, Jillson (we need a right handed dman), Pyatt (potential PF, we need that), and a high end pick. There is absolutely now way Buffalo gives in to those ludacris demands. Although I may have went a bit overboard there, a team like Buffalo does have some nice chips, but they don't have the right ones to acquire Chara. The fact he stays in the North East = even crazier asking price.

Ottawa's most important player is Chara. They'll never willingly lose him.

I disagree, it's a quality vs. quantity issue. Kalinen may be a budding no.1, but Chara is already there and IMO, much more of an impact player than Kalinen will likely ever be. Even first round picks are risky and does nothing to help Ottawa make a run for the cup right now or for the next few season.

It's a bad deal for Buffalo too, since Chara doesn't help them compete for a championship (rest of team not good enough), but on the whole it's worse for Ottawa.

Kalinin will be an All-Star d-man. Buffalo would be giving up way too much in this one.

Buffalo gives a lot, but the Sens don't need more talent, they need grit. And that's why this trade is impossible

I doubt Buffalo would want to give up this much for one guy.

I think it's pretty obvious that it's a bad deal from both sides. It just irks me that Buffalo fans seem convinced that Ottawa would accept this deal.

Buffalo wouldn't give that up for any one player in the league, and there aren't a whole lot of teams who could even offer enough to get Chara out of Ottawa. Ottawa needs Chara and he isn't going anywhere.

With Buffalo as a rebuilding/building team, Buffalo would not trade away these key pieces for one player.

Ottawa, as a cup contender, would not give up such a key player for pieces better suited for a rebuilding team.

Too much or not, Ottawa dont even think about moving on this one right one. They have much better ways to land than sending Chara the other way and right now, they have no needs for prospects. With the way Chara played last year, it would be a big downgrade for them.

Hell, I'm an Ottawa *and* Buffalo fan, and I don't like this deal from either side.

However, if I'm Ottawa, and I've been drafting as well and developing from within like I have been, I take just about any deal that gives me more draft picks.

I'm more tempted by it as a Sens fan, more dreading it as a Sabres fan.

Neither team would offer, consider, nor accept that deal.
