Yeah, no kidding.Unless you are dealing with a reputed seller, it's cash, in person only.

Report the number to homeland security or use it to register the person with the KKK, or NAMBLA, or some other lunatic organization.

Or, even worse, register the # with Oprah's book club.

Did you specify when the tickets should be delivered? If not then I don't think there's any recourse. Just because you purchase tickets for an event doesn't mean they'll be there in time.

Syracuse is not that large of an area, but still a good idea. A police report is the first way to go but the police will do everything in their power to deny any involvement.

Make ads on CL for things that are just barely too good to be true. Cars for lower than kbb but say it is a rush, iPad same thing. Use the email and phone number they gave you

Craigslist has a scam/fraud page with this information.

http://www.craigslist.org/about/scams

But seriously, why havent you posted this information on here?
Also, post it on the Craigslist site, so others wont have the same issues.

When I went to school in Boston, I used CL regularly for tickets. Always paid with PayPal, always documented everything carefully. Only got burned once.

Bought a pair of B's/Habs tickets for $50 each. Lowers too, it was a great deal. Paid with PayPal, guy had hard tix and wanted to meet up, but couldn't for a week or so. That was fine, so I went over to his house, and he wasn't there. Game got closer and closer, and after repeated attempts to contact him, I initiated a PayPal dispute. That got his attention. We met up, I gave him cash, as the PayPal dispute had already been finished.

I used him twice more after that, no issues, cash up front. He said he could help me with playoff tickets...gave him $100...and never saw him again. Repeated attempts to contact him didn't work, and to be honest, it wasn't worth the time or the effort. I figure I used him 3 times, got seats half of market value each time. The $100 wasn't the absolute end of the world. Still pissed me off though.
