The top conference has like 1/10th of the travel of the other conferences.

I'll be crazy and propose something that fixes travel complaints but introduces every single other problem....

Coast to Coast division split, no teams can be in the same conference as another team in a 300km radius.

That will show everybody complaining about travel time.

West needs more north/south division.

Canadian teams + Colorado and Minne. The rest go to the SouthWest.

Only way I like a situation where there is 2 conferences with 7 teams and 2 with 8 is if there is a cross over possibility.

I hate the idea of a wild card. Trivializes the regular season. You could have a team finish in 4th 10 points ahead of the 5th place team and they could lose a 1 game series and thats that.

I would prefer each 7 team conference have an 8 team counter part conference.

If the 5th place team in the 8 team conference finishes with more points than that 4th place team in the 7 team conference they get a cross over.

Although the problem with that is you are potentially penalizing a 1st place team forcing them to have a waay more difficult travel schedule for the first playoff round...

I donno.

It Kinda blows that the west had to deal with the Red Wings in the Lidstrom era & when they are on the downside they get to go back east.

Is it still top 4 teams from each conference make playoffs?

Well this proposed realignment is better then the previous one that got rejected. They had 8 teams in the division in that one compared to 7 now. It makes sense to have the 8 team divisions in the east anyways since those teams have a lot less travel.

Why don't they just switch Nashville and Winnipeg and be done with it

It makes no sense to me. What happens when QC gets a team and or Markham, Seattle and Houston. This will MAYBE be okay for one year at longest.

Does this mean Houston and Seattle are next? Those divisions would then be at 8 each.

I would have liked to see Edmonton and Winnipeg back in the same division but what can you do.

Canuck fans should be happy--they have wanted to be in the same division as Kings, Ducks and SJ for awhile

isnt this the same realignment the NHLPA nuked last year?

I like it better than the last, simply because I would rather be in a 7-team conference than an 8-team one.

Why do they want to implement this 4 conference idea? The obvious fact that it is harder to make the playoffs in some conferences than others make the idea ridiculous to me.

It's widely speculated that there will be a 2-team expansion in the nearish future, which would balance out the 4 conferences.

Exactly, if they are going ahead with this idea of uneven. Conferences i like being in the smaller conference also i think we are. Close to being better then or are already better then cgy sj pho and LA

But they would have to be two west side teams so no ontario and no quebec, apart from Seattle not sure where else they'd add a team on the west.

Makes sense.

A Seattle team would fit right into our proposed division.

Kansas City would fit right in with the other Western conference.

Hate it. The uneven conferences is a dumb idea, is gonna make for wacky scheduling and some strange playoff situations. I dunno how they're thinking of doing this proposed 'Wildcard' thing, but the way I see it it'll always be easier to make it in the 7 team conferences.

I get the whole trying to accommodate for expansion, but the three most likely expansions are Markham, Quebec City and Seattle. Assuming Phoenix moves to one of them, doesn't help with the fact that they'll still have to realign later.

Stick with 6 divisions of 5 for now, worry about expansion when the time comes.
