Ducks/Isles

Hillier
for
Nabokov and Bailey

Gives the Ducks a young Forward and a vet goalie to help Fasth while Isles give Hillier a chance to run with the starting job, 1 yr left on his deal

Isles should take it; but you gotta remember Fasth is 30 already and Nabokov is aging too (36?)

Ducks have no reason to do this.

First, it's Hiller.
Second, Ducks would never take this.

If there is to be a deal, I would like to see Okposo involved.

I would think that we'd be after a natural left wing.

No thanks. So long as Nabby is not overworked, he's played well for the isles. He's become a more vocal leader, calling his teammates out for their crappy effort which is an added plus.

From a few short comments in Staples articles, it sound like Nabby is a good bet to sign another extension.

Having seen Nabokov for years in San Jose, we don't want your overpaid goalie either.

I think a high pick should be added. I like Bailey though. He's good. Nabokov has been playing pretty well for the Isles, too (even though his numbers don't really show that). It gives us a veteran 1B type and he's an UFA at the end of the season.

I would not trade Hiller yet, though. I don't think we make a trade before the deadline or more likely the draft unless Hiller immediately wants out (unlikely).

Its obvious why the OP wants to trade Hiller. Fasth is better at this point, just got extended, and is a whole lot cheaper. The NYI arent looking to do the Ducks any favors. Hiller has never been a great goaltender. Nabokov has fit in well with this team so no need to make this trade.

hiller hold zero appeal to me. nyi wont take his contract either (you do have to pay it with real money, right?). Next, we would never add a pick, we are already paying too much.

not going to happen from the nyi perspective.

As you've been told repeatedly, the OP isn't a Ducks fan. The Ducks don't need Nabokov. He's never amounted to anything. The Ducks don't want to trade Hiller right now regardless.

Also, Hiller did just fine in the '09 playoffs and was the only western conference goalie in the all-star game in '10-11 before getting vertigo, so yes, he has been just fine. Fasth is on a hot steak. Time will tell if he's better.

Yep, the OP is a Ducks fan, he knows so much about the Ducks that he spells "Hillier's" name right

And never been a great goaltender? Have you watched any hockey in the last 4-5 seasons?

Yeah, and we'd rather have Tavares then Bailey, but we can't all get what we want, huh?

Anyway, wouldn't do this deal anyway, rather ride Fasth/Hiller combo to end of season and then evaluate, and don't want Nabokov near the team.

Someone hasn't watched the West in recent years.

His save % this year is .879. Last year was .910, good for 30th in the league. In the two years since his vertigo problems, he has been below average.

In fact, he has not proven to be better than Nabokov. And he makes more money. And he is a UFA after next year.

The Isles will not be interested in giving up much for Hiller. They will either sign Nabokov for another year, or look for another free agent goalie. If they do decide to make a trade, it will be either for a cheaper goalie, or one under team control longer.

Superficial. This year's numbers at a sample size of eight games are pretty meaningless. It has been two years since the start of his vertigo problems, but he has just payed one season since (and the eight games of this year). And while he started that season very slow given those issues, he was > .920 for the second half of last year, thus decisively above average. He was actually rather stellar, which just happened to go unnoticed for those limited to stat-watching.

These are all very understandable concerns, and quite valid, so there's no reason to try to create other reasons beyond the Isles' interests here.

Nabokov back in the day was better than Hiller is now, but not at this point. If the Islanders really wanted to make a trade for a goalie, they could. Snow obviously doesn't want to though, which is fine. Like I said, I doubt the Ducks move Hiller this season. Maybe draft day...

Counter:

Anders Nilsson and Josh Bailey for Jonas Hiller and Mat Clark. In the offseason.

Still doesn't make sense for the Ducks. Already have Anderson, Gibson, and Bobkov.

If Josh Bailey is the center piece in a Jonas Hiller trade the Ducks gladly pass. They can continue to carry both goalies for an additional year or flip him for a greater return despite what Islanders fans seem to think.
