In all seriousness I have nothing against the guy, it's just become too easy and I'm not one to lay off the snark.

Even though they won, that was a pretty bad game by the Leafs.

Duchene is full of crap, best player on the ice by far.

The Hawks will be horrible in the playoffs. They'll have completely used up their clutchness.

Good observation by the NBC guy - Mcginn stick knocked out. Should have been a slashing call!

Nevermind, Landeskog might just be the best player on the ice.

If there was one player I could get for free, it would be him. (Well aside from the obvious Stamkos-Crosby-Tavares

O'byrne is pretty bad but I'd take him back as a bottom pairing/7th defender, at least he got tougher and is more useful than Weber. He's having the best game I've seen him play in a while today, very physical.

Have to say, Paloosh is playing really well. Tons of speed. Much like when he was a call up for us though, no real scoring touch though. He does, however have the young linemates to make his speed very useful.

don;t want to take anything away from hawks but looks like zebras getting caught up in hype. there is absolutely no way zilch 0 that the habs would get away with knocking Mcginn's stick out of his hands on the Toews shortie and then the O'Byrne trip with 3 mins left. two blatant penalties uncalled on Chi.

Lol What.. O'Byrne lead the team in ice time with almost 24 minutes and had 6 hits. Finished +1.

Does this happen often?

Curious but what about the blatant elbow that sent Shaw out of game that went uncalled?

They really are.
However, I'd be a little bit concerned that they're playing for their Stanley Cup right now.
They seem to be on an absolute mission about not losing. They're really focusing a lot of their energy on not losing. They just keep pushing and pushing.
It must really be a special feeling to be living what they are now, but this makes me feel like Oakland going for the All time record of 20 consecutive wins only to lose in the Division round of the POs.

I'm always skeptical of teams having these miraculous runs during the season. It never seems to continue all the way through to winning the absolute Championship.

In other news, one by one NHL teams are admitting to using advanced stats: http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/opin...tatistics.html I guess it's not just us HFboards nerds after all.

Shame it seems like the Habs management is extremely old fashioned.

What stats count as "advanced"?

ETA: Article mentions dump and chase success, and primary assists.

Really, any attempt to quantify play beyond goals, assists and even more flawed numbers like +/- or hits.

We all know there's no magical formula, and the article makes it clear you aren't getting a job in hockey if you don't watch games first and rely on everything else second, but you should use every tool available to evaluate performance.
