Nashville is one of the top teams (3rd IIRC) in goals against. They're only allowing 2 goals a game. Dallas' defense is going to be shaky. Daley .... hopefully .... is coming back from a neck injury so he's probably not 100%. A major positive is obviously is Robidas and Goligoski playing much better lately, but this has the potential to be disaster ... mainly because of goaltending. Nashville doesn't score a ton, but we know Nilstorp is starting. I honestly like the guy, and I believe he'll turn into a pretty good NHL goalie. Early on though, we know he's been inconsistent. His play and ability to string good games together will determine whether this is winnable. I think he probably will have a good game tonight, but I don't think this is going to be a cakewalk.

Hope this doesn't mean Smith is sitting... I'm all for Fraser getting top 6 time but both players should be developing.
I thought Smith played well. But that second line has been struggling so putting a goal scorer like Fraser there makes sense. Hopefully the lines look something like so:
In a perfect world Smith gets a shot on the top line in place of Morrow. But That line has played pretty well and Eakin/Smith have some chemistry so I understand not doing that.
Gully said Daley is probably going to be fine, but they have to get one last OK from the trainers.
They'll need to make a roster move for him to be activated. With Roussel not playing, and Daley not entirely cleared even though it's pretty much a given ... I could see them sending him down.
I'm....cautiously excited to see these lines. I'm super surprised that Fraser gets on the second. With this coaching staff I half expected him in for Garbutt or something.
So maybe Roussel and Sneep are the only options ... I can't imagine they feel comfortable only having 6 healthy D though with Daley just now getting back in.

Stars honestly now have a legit scoring threat on 3 lines, and great energy on the 4th. I really like the balance of that forward group. Smith looked good with Eakin again last game. They only had a few shifts together, but I really think there's something that can develop in the NHL between those two.
Technically it's a demotion, but I think Smith belongs with Eakin right now. They were special together in the AHL, and they are both getting better and better in the NHL right now.
So excited though to see Fraser with Roy and Eriksson. I hope they hit it off quickly. The sooner he proves he can be a NHLer the sooner Dallas moves Ryder for nice asset or two, IMO.

Unless Fraser takes off, I think they'd just move Fraser back to the AHL. Smith would also be an option to just go back down if Fraser is more productive.
This team, hell most teams, just do the simple move. They'd eventually move someone to get the odd man out back in the NHL though.
As far as what line he goes on, they talked about a Whitney-Benn-Jagr line before. I still would like to see that. Benn and Jagr are great with the puck obviously, but their ability to bury the puck is probably their best asset. A playmaker like Whitney would be more useful IMO than a crasher like Morrow on that line.
We already know though that Gully didn't like Morrow with Nystrom and Fiddler. So that means he's playing with Eakin or Roy if Whitney goes on the first line. Otherwise, I think Whitney with Eakin could be a good fit.
I agree on Eakin/Smith. They had so much chemistry in the AHL that it didn't matter who was their third on the line. I also hope they get back to what they had soon.
I am looking forward to seeing Fraser out there on the second line. I hope they put him in on the powerplay too because he seems to always be left alone on the backside of the goal.
I'm more worried about Eriksson and the funk he seems to be in.

I would too, but this isn't the time for it. While I'm glad Morrow has been looking good, I'm not convinced that it isn't an illusion caused by 2 legit stars attracting all the focus of the opposition. Moving Morrow while he is playing well is sending him the wrong message and fixing a line that ain't broke.

Good call, even if Reilly could get in a handful of shifts with the big guns, I'd love to see it.
I'd give Morrow the edge at winning the physical battle against top pairing D and net drive. But I think Reilly could create more off the rush and on the cycle. When Morrow wins a battle he's been giving the puck right back to the opposition.
I hate to say this.. i mean really, i really really really hate to say this.. Morrow is going to be on the top line unless there are injuries or the team is struggling. Benn & Jagr can figure out how to play together and just let Morrow go around hitting defenders when they dump the puck in. Let Morrow cancel 1 guy out, and it becomes 4 on 4 and they will create scoring chances.
I would give my left *** to see Jagr and Benn play with another skilled player, i have been waiting for this since he left for the KHL. He was stuck with Hartnell on the left for all of last year.
I guess the only hope is if whitney comes back, maybe they will experiment then.
