Again, the guy is a warrior, team leader I simply think he might not be a best fit for the playoffs. Lets be honest his best days are behind him and i'm not saying lay him out to pasture but he looks to be like a liability when he is on the ice
One of the top ten is getting Blades the Bear more airtime.

In the spirit of honesty, I should've used the sarcasm smiley with the number, or rather just say that I don't see it as an immediate priority. Down the road, yes. I think the money set aside for the cap going toward a top 9 forward and a defenseman will pretty much eat up what money is left. 4 line RW just doesn't rate to me as worthy, at the moment, of spending money.

Upgrade Within the organization? Sure. Is MacDermid that guy? Maybe....but I think Thornton has more offensive skill that trumps whatever physical nature a younger MacDermid brings.

Also, and I say this as someone who has experience working in the Brain Injury field....it's simply too soon to assess whether or not Thornton is a permanent "liability." Your argument actually works in reverse....maybe get MacDermid some time NOW and see if Thornton can regain his bearings closer to the playoffs.

My whole point.....right now, it's too soon. Not based on "loyalty" or anything....just too soon to assess....which is why I ended my original point with "yet."

Ott is a pest. Marchand is a pest.

Cooke and Torres are borderline psychos who deliberately attempt to severely injure people, and too often succeed.

If you want that type of player, I can only wish you weren't a Bruins fan.

Thorton has been terrible for sure, but I do think he has earned the right and the chance to get back his game. He is coming off a concussion and may need some time to get back. As people have stated, its the 4th line so you can be a little patient with him. If anything, Claude will give a guy who has paid his dues some time to get his game back.

I think something is up with Shawn Thornton. He's averaging only 6:05 TOI per game. In years past, he's averaged close to 10 per game. Normally, I'm OK with the bench being shortened. And Paille & Campbell are still getting the minutes they deserve. But given the upcoming schedule, spreading out the minutes more will only benefit the Bruins in the long run. Not sure Pandolfo is the answer here either.

Bourque and THornton to the pines, Pandolfo to the waiver wire...

Paille-Kelly-Pervs
Spooner-Soup-MacDermid.

I'd roll that for a few games...

Thornton is not done IMO,. just unable to play his game the way he wants right now.

Marchand's hit on Salo was clearly an intent to injure. It was Marchment/Kasparaitis like in it's obvious attack of a player's knee.

And what do you call any player (Thornton, Lucic or any player in the league) who throws a punch at the face of another player if it isn't deliberately trying to injure someone. It's not a "hockey play" to punch a player in the face. So like my man Z said.... if you are against dirty play be against it. Don't be against it depending on the jersey hue.

No it wasn't. I don't want to get into this argument and people trying to defend cooke and torres by saying guys who get into hockey fights are equally dirty because they throw punches.

How is wanting to dump a 36 yr old plug who should have retired after last season even remotely wanting to trade the whole team? I never mentioned any of the other players that you did in your attempt to belittle my opinion.

In my opinion Thornton should be waived. He is not even coming close to doing his job. His job is to not be a liability on the ice while fighting. He is NOT doing his job.

How long do we give him before its more clear than it already is that he needs to retire?

Thornton gets 10 more games, he should get more ice with all the games in March. If he is still struggling you need to look to move him.

I think because of his leadership and everything you can't make him the 13th forward. Its a tough spot he sort of has to play.

The merlot line isn't changing. This team needs a guy like thorty and he's as good as a hockey player as those type of players go. He'll drop them soon enough and be okay.

Yeah, it's strange, you'd think Thornton is coming off an injury or something.

I think Thornton rushed back to fast. Maybe it was pride.

Is he/ she a B's fan ? I kind of doubt it.

I would take a Greg Campbell type who can actually fight if we're talking about replacing Thornton. I actually don't mind a little dirty from time to time and I like Torres ( sans suspensions ) as a gritty, tough player.

I still think Thornton can go...he just needs a little more time. But I'm sure the Bruins are thinking of contingencies and backup plans if/when Thornton hangs them up or can't go anymore.

Kyle Clifford would be nice, as well as Zenon Konopka. Konopka isn't the sexiest of names, but he's gold at the dot and he's tough as nails.

Konopka would be the perfect addition to the 4th line.
